In fact a better WORKAROUND is to configure the service to self restart if it is stopped (win2k feature) but this is just a workaround as far as I am concerned.

I am hoping DELL or anybody has found the cause and the fix e.g. a patch.

Thanks,

Leonard

I also had this fault on our Dell 4600 servers (Win2K SP4)

But they are solved now. What I did was:

1. uninstalled all components (everything) of Dell Openmanage (from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs).

2. upgraded System Bios, Embedded Server Management firmware and DRACIII firmware to the newest versions - available on Dell homepage. The 3Di Raid Controller was allready running the newest firmware (build 3170).

3. Installed Dell Openmanage Server Administrator ver 1.6 A00 (file released on dell 4600 homepage nov.24 2003 - size approx 140MB).

It was not good enough to just remove the old OMSA 1.4, reboot and then install OMSA 1.6 and then reboot. I had to update the Firmware versions.

On one of the 4600 boxes, I had to reinstall OMSA a second time to get the Storage Component installed.

I must add to this message, that as good Dell Support is to most thing, they have definitely NOT lived up to the standard on issues relating to Server Management problems like this one (at least not the Danish support-devision - sorry Dell).

Sincerely
