I came across a Dell 2162DS and try to use this for our environment vs the traditional iDRAC. However, when I have this unit connected, I have try the following methods to get connect to the KVM without success
1. I do not know the IP address, thus web browser access is out
2. I use one of the RJ45 to 9pin serial converter/cable we have from our Dell UPS and trying to connect to the console with HyperTerminal. However, all I get is a blank screen
3. With the Keyboard, monitor, and mouse connected, I do not see any thing on the screen either
In short, is there any other idea you can thing of to validate if I got a dead KVM or perhaps I am missing something here. Thank you as any feedback would be appreicated
There is a local user connection on the switch. If you connect a keyboard and and monitor to the local UI connection you will have access to the local user interface. Please refer to page 43 on how to use it:
I try that but the screen is blank. I also notices I can get cap lock or num lock light to show up. Best guest is that USB port is not working. Unless there is a policy you can set to lock out local access?
Are you able to check the DHCP server or switch that the KVM is connected to to find out what the KVM IP address is, or is it not connected to your LAN?
To my knowledge you can't disable local UI. There is no way to reset defaults without some form of access.

Press “Prnt Scrn” button to load the KVM screen.
