Yakatz,

The openmanage disk will not recognise this version of OS as it see's it as a volume licence.

You will have to source another version or else do without and just install without the help of openmanage - 2008 should have the drivers for the perc controller.

What version of the installation utility (SBUU) are you using?  Is Windows 2008 R2 specifically an option on the OS selection screen?  If it is not specifically listed, or you are not using SBUU version 6.2 (this will not be a 'CD' version, must be DVD, and shouldn't give you 2008 R2 as an install option), then it will reject the media.  If it is version 6.2 and you have and selected 2008 R2 from the OS selection screen, then I'm not sure.  I know sometimes there are issues with the VL media from eopen, but have never encountered it with the MSDN media.  R2 (MSDN) installed beautifully on on my 2850's, but I did not use SBUU to install the utility partition, as Dell diagnostics can simply be run from CD/USB/Network.

That answers the question, although I am not sure why Dell would make it that way.

Server 2008 R2 does not have the PERC drivers. I had to pick some other x64 version of Windows for the support site to even list those drivers as available.

I am still missing some drivers, but I will work that out over time.

The OpenManage DVD (which is version 6.2) specifically mentions Server 2008 R2 as an install choice.

I have tried media from MSDN and my university, so I will assume it is a volume licencing issue.

To be honest, I have not tried 2008 or 2008 R2 with SBUU, however, I know that it works with MSDN images of 2003.  I haven't seen an issue with MSDN images, but I have with the eopen images.

Back to the orignal post, if you are trying to install w2k8 using the Dell install disc (SMTD/SBUU), it should not be asking you for the OS disc at 15%. This sounds like you have chosen 2003 as the OS. I just performed an OS install on my 2850 with 2008 r2 x64 enterprise from an msdn volume license cd with no problems. The order of installation was that I booted to the dell dvd (SMTD v6.2), told it I wanted to install w2k8, it did a few things, told me to remove all discs, rebooted, and then it asked me for the OS disc, and all proceeded normally.
