You might want to restart the iDRAC before the update with racadm racreset, through the iDRAC web gui or hold the System identification button on the front of the server for 15 seconds.
The identification buttons on the front and back panels can be used to locate a particular system within a rack. When one of these buttons is pushed, the LCD panel on the front and the system status indicator on the back flashes blue until one of the buttons is pushed again. Press to toggle the system ID on and off. If the system hangs during POST, press and hold the system ID button for more than five seconds to enter BIOS progress mode. To reset the iDRAC (if not disabled in F2 iDRAC setup) press and hold for more than 15 seconds.
If I reset the iDRAC via the System Identification button, will it mess anything else up? These are production servers so I want to be absolutely certain.
How can I see what version of I have of the LifeCycle Controller?
Do you think it's best to update iDRAC manually to guarantee that it updates?

The version that you are currently on is a bit of a problem version, see http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/7526.idrac7-home#iDRAC7_cure

After that first make sure the LifeCycle Controller is the latest version, you may need to do this manualy
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TR4J7
You can try the update after that again and select the following options.
If it still doesn't work you need to do it manually through the iDRAC GUI. Go to http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=VV01T and download iDRAC-2.21.21.21-A00.exe. Unpack it and upload firmimg.d7 in the iDRAC webgui.

It will only restart the iDRAC the running OS will not notice it. If you want you can also do this through the iDRAC GUI.
The version of the LifeCycle controller can be seen on the Server page in the iDRAC.
With a manual upgrade there are fewer moving parts so to speak that can cause issues.

You are looking at OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) you can configure the iDRAC from there if you want.
