The utility is looking for a repository, such as that provided on the Server Updates DVD.

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

I have run one-off updates (especially when an update I want isn't yet on the Server Updates DVD) from the OpenManage Deployment Toolkit CD - but this involved dropping to the command prompt, mounting a USB key and running the Linux version of the Dell update from the USB key. It's fine if you're happy with a *NIX shell prompt - but if not, you'll probably be lost.

There is a Content Manager tool (which is probably on the System Build and Update Utility CD; it's certainly on one of the OpenManage DVDs) which allows you to create and update your own repository. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work from Windows XP - if I leave my proxy information blank (as I don't need to log into a web proxy to access the Internet), it just times out with a connection error.

The Content Manager is on the System Tools and Documentation DVD for sure, I'm not sure if one of the CDs has it.

Hello,

  Thanks for the help.

I did the follow:   Used the CD Build Utility and after DVD update Server, within this application I used the second option (update) and I could updated the FW, Drac, Bios (the first option is posible to load OS).

With the option 3 I created the utility in USB device.  I booted using windows and used the suulauncher.exe command (under customrepository folder) and get access to update bios, fw, etc. in all servers in my network.

A question, is this tool currently used or they are obsolete?

Using ITA is posible to do the same tasks?

regards

mcc

As long as the server has OMSA installed and you have it discovered correctly in ITA, you can push out firmware and driver updates to the server.  For cases where a server is not discovered in ITA, that tool is still useful.
