Problems with Dell Venue 8 Pro and Miracast

Haven't been able to get Miracast working with Netgear PTV3000 or Actiontec Screenbeam. Firmware is up to date. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Windows's duplicate mode is pixel per pixel. In other words you can only duplicate the smallest resolution between two screens. If you are duplicating the Venue 8 Pro's screen on a regular 1080p television, only 1280 x 800 will show up. Beyond that you will have to magnify image through the TV's own magnify function if it has one.

In extended mode however, you can expand the content on the TV to the full 1920 x 1080. The catch is: in order to control content on the second screen you will indeed need a mouse.

Personally, I will be using my Venue 8 Pro with PowerPoint in "Presenter View" where I can see my notes and control the presentation on my tablet while the slides are showing up on the second screen.

I could totally understand the pixel-per-pixel duplication, but I'm willing to have a 1280x800 resolution on the big screen (the PTV3000 is intelligent enough to upscale to 1920x1080; you will eventually have an almost imperceptible vertical black side bars).

I have tested this with a Carbon X1 wich has a 1600x900 and the PTV upscales to 1920x1080 since it is the same aspect ratio. If not the same aspect ratio, it puts the bars to keep the aspect ratio and goes up).

The problem here and I think why everybody is complaining, is that we get an 600x800 max resolution wich means huge black bars on the big screen!!!!!

To be honest, I cannot understand how Dell advertises the wireless screen features and they didn't test it out in the most common usage scenario (landscape mode in a FullHD big screen)....

And still Microsoft has a commercial showcasing a red Venue 8 Pro being used on an airplane. This tablet has the potential to be a holiday favorite, but Dell needs to hurry up and get all of the accessories working.

The red Venue 8 pro is available on Dell's website, but estimated shipping is 12/18

So I guess I shouldn't rush out to buy a Miracast adapter for my TV then? :-/

Unless I got used to using a Bluetooth mouse with the tablet on the TV itself...

Brian, I have mostly the same problems everybody wrote about but also have problems with the size of the screen on my TV. When I display my desktop on the TV the Windows screen is a little to big and is difficult to click on items on the bottom bar (I use a Bluetooth mouse) and also the controls in the top since they are barely visible . Will the updated driver allow us to adjust the size of the screen?. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Assuming you have a High Definition TV, have you tried putting your TV on "just scan" ? Most people have their televisions set on stretch or full. Once I did that the display aligned perfectly.

Thanks for the help onajet, on my TV this mode is called "Dot by Dot". I was under the assumption that when you set the mode it would apply to all the HDMI inputs but apparently each input can be set differently. When I checked the mode for the input I am using for the adapter it was set to stretch. I changed to Dot by Dot just like my cable input was and the screen fits perfectly. Thanks again for the tip.

Will both portrait and landscape orientation be supported when duplicate mode is used?  The current driver forces portrait only when duplicating.

We've been testing a new video driver over the weekend that seems to fix the problems that were created by the Microsoft QFE from 11/12/13.    With the new driver, you should now have no trouble getting the Netgear or Actiontec to work in duplicate or extended mode.    In duplicate mode, the external display will use the same resolution as the LCD but should be full screen or close to it (depending upon your external device).   In extended mode, you can go to whatever the resolution supported by your external hardware setup/limitations.    For extended mode, the recommendation is still to use an external mouse if you want a pointer.

This driver is in final test and should be posted very soon.    Please watch support.dell.com for the driver to go live.

Can we get an update on the timeline? This is major broken functionality.

Dell posted a new Intel Platform Driver Installer here http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/dell-venue-8-pro?driverId=3VR67&osCode=WB32A&fileId=3325558536&languageCode=en&categoryId=DD In the release notes, it says it fixes miracast in clone mode. It helps, but I still can't clone just yet.

Driver has mirrored overnight and is now available for download.   I've tried on my personal device and I am capable of using duplicate (with tablet in landscape mode), extend (with tablet in portrait and secondary monitor in landscape), or second screen only.   In second screen only, there is a small tracer that helps with knowing where your finger is for selecting items but an external mouse will still make things easier.

If you've installed beta drivers from the Intel site, make sure you back everything out before installing this or you might not see the same results.   My device is stock with Dell drivers and available MSFT updates.

I'm not seeing any new drivers for the Venue 11 5130. Will the fix work for this, or is it only for Venue 8?

Can you post the links to the drivers needed?

Thanks!

Dumb question here....when I go to the Intel Platform Driver Installer for the Venue 8 Pro, there are 2 files, "Intel_Chipset_WW48_PR5.1_A03_ZPE.exe" and "5830_Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Driver_3VR67_WN_603.9600.2067.26305_A03.EXE".  Are they the same thing or do we need to install both?
