Venue Pro GPS

Hi Folks, I'm a bit confused with the GPS on the Venue Pro. It seems like that the Venue pro is equipped only with an AGPS. In that case I need Internet access all the time which produces extra charges. Is there any app which works like a standard GPS without using the internet connection? Thanks. Haris

No mobile phones currently support offline GPS navigation (with maps) if you would just like to record a track then there are a host of applications that do that. A seperate GPS device for navigation is still your best bet.

Engadget reported that Google were looking into it for Andriod and rumor has it that Nokia's OviMaps will support this when it is released for Windows Phone 7.

Nokia has supported offline maps/gps for years. My Nokia 5800, which is over 3 years old, has had offline maps and gps from the very beginning, I have all 50 USA states downloaded on my memory card using Ovi Maps, I don't have any data plan, but the gps lock takes about 1 minute initially. Many Nokia model supports offline maps (N8, E7, n97, etc) and many countries are downloadable through Ovi Maps. Offline maps is one of the key advantages of Nokia, and perhaps their downfall (since they spent so much acquiring Navteq which they could have used in accelerating Symbian changes).
