Hi TimK,

I have tweaked the Unity OE Matrix KB to include this info now as it might be useful to some customers.

Have a look here:

Hi TimK,

4.2.2 should not be used due to ETA 518863. 4.2.3 was published with the fix for the ETA and replaced 4.2.2.

4.2.3 has been target code since March 16th.

If you have further questions please let me know.

Hi Andre,

I agree with you I would never use 4.2.2 at this point. I am asking more for historical reasons.  I have not found a place that list a time frame of what code was target code when.

You could try the uptime bulletins on the support site which list the target code (Q4 2017, Q1 2018 for example).  Looking through the resources I can find, it looks like 4.2.1 was target and then was superseded by 4.2.3 as target due to the ETA Andre mentioned above.

All,

I recommend you upgrade to current Unity target code.  RCA requests to Dell/EMC Unity Engineering for  4.2.1 code are being turned down.  I feel the message is very important to get to the user community, since the last time I checked around ~70% of the Unity storage system reporting home are running 4.2.1 or earlier code.  Production outage or install base has nothing to do with getting an RCA.

The Product Updates email contain a link to the Target Revision and Adoption Rate report, that is where I got the ~70%

Below is the link to Target Revision and Adoption Rate report Unity is at the bottom.

Hi TimK,

Yes, the RCA criteria is N-1, where N is the target code and N-1 is the previous target code provided it's not older that 12 months.

So in this case, if you are running 4.2.1 code you should still qualify for RCA. This however, depends on the actual issue, etc.

If you have an SR you are concerned about, you can post the number here and I can take a look.

Or send me a private message and we can check it out.

Thanks

Hi Andre,

Thank you https://support.emc.com/kb/489694 is the information I was seeking.

Service Request #10963762 if you want to take a look.  See attachments I uploaded an email between the Service delivery Manager and myself.

I requested a RCA, but it is really up to DELL/EMC how they respond to the SR.

I wanted this user group discussion to be more about helping the user community and not so much about myself.

The below is a great resource to reference, so customers understand exactly where they stand regarding code.

Also the RCA information you provided is great info for all users to know.

"RCA criteria is N-1, where N is the target code and N-1 is the previous target code provided it's not older that 12 months."

Thank you
