Hello Rajesh Pendyala,

Are you trying to do a native file import?  Here is a link that maybe of assistance. https://dell.to/3kIMphu

1) My app is on Windows Server 2012 . 8.3 filename format was enabled . Having two files one long filename and short name flat files.

Ex: Long file name  Filexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.txt and Shot file name FileX~1.txt.

2) We have target machine one windows server 2016 and DELL EMC Unity Server with share folder as Mapped Drives to the Windows server 2012 .

3) When migrating due to enabled DOS 8.3 filename Long file names remains same but the content of the file is override by the short file (FileX~1.txt) and short filename file never gets migrated.

4)After disabling the 8.3 filename format . The migration takes place correctly on the Windows server shared folder mapped as drive , But the same output mentioned on the point 3 ,override the long file content . ITs happening for only DELL EMC shared folder as mapped drive .

5)Felt its app issue we have used simple command prompt to copy the files the results is same its overriding so issue is not with the app but settings on the DELL EMC system .

What might be the issue and any settings need to be applied on DELL EMC.

Thanks

Hello Rajesh Pendyala,

You are going to want to use native file import to migrate your files over to your Unity system.  based on your setup it would be best to open a support case so that we can look into your setup deeper.

Hello Rajesh Pendyala,

I thought you were using a physical system and not unity vsa community.  You can’t open a case with Unity vsa community edition.

sounds strange

which exact application is that ?
IF you are using emcopy contact support for a newer version

Usually when creating / copying a file and the LFN is used then the dst system computes the 8.3 name

We use the same algorithm there that Windows does
Any differences in 8.3 name are usually because on conflicts it depends on the order files are copied

If you want to know whats going on a network trace should tell you which names are actually sent over the wire

Hi Sam The customer environment is SMB NAS server on a DellEMC Unity 600 array running OE 5.0.2.0.5.009.

For testing environment we have DELL unity VSA community.

Do we have any scripts on the customer environment to run to disable the large filenames/shortfilenames.

Hi Rainer ,

Application just migrates files from one system to the other .

                 1) We first copy the short filenames and later the large file names to the destination.

                 2) Let keep the behavior of the application a side , But the command EMC copy does the same behavior from command prompt .

                 3) App side we use windows build in copy command.
