Understanding Dell UnityVSA ?!
Hi all,
I'm trying to understand what UnityVSA is (on a basic level, I know its software defined storage, is it something like vSAN ?! any link that explain it in simple terms), if someone can explain in simple English what is and what it does.
Thank You

OK so I ran into a strange issue.
I had shutdown all systems, vCenter, ESXi hosts, and UnityVSA, on reboot the ESXi hosts had no connection to the data store, this has happened the second time. I thought since the UnityVSA takes a long time to boot up thats the reason, but not, even after completely booting up, the disks just disappear from vCenter and ESXi hosts. This only happens if vCenter and ESXi hosts are booted before UnityVSA is completely booted up, this is not normal as even if the ESXi hosts boots up quicker, once the UNityVSA boots up the disks should show back in vCenter but it doesnt.

It's always better to have the storage side booted up before the hosts, especially if there are any boot Luns in that storage.
I'd recommend to check the hosts initiators status at Unity side if the are registered or not.
Also try to rescan from ESXi side and see if this resolves the issue

Thanks Mohammed,
That sounds reasonable to boot storage before hosts, this was how it works fine.
