Unity File Compression

I heard an SE talking about Unity code 4.2, this included "file compression". Due for release Q3 2018. Check with your local Unity SE guy/girl.

Compression was added in end of last year. I don't remember exact release, but the current one will enable it for you. You have to compress any existing storage which will take some time.

Block LUN compression is enabled in OE 4.1, I believe, but I am asking specifically about File compression.

Does the file compression require SSD pools or does it work with hybrid pools as well? Can we specify compression by file type / access time in the same way that VNX file compression allowed?

just like inline compression for block it requires and all-flash pool and compresses the complete file system

Hi there, I was reading the release notes for 4.2.0.9392909 and wanted some clarity on this feature:

"Compression is now available for thin UFS64 file systems created on thin LUNs in all-Flash pools."

Does it work

1. ONLY on AFA (i.e. 300F)?
2. On HYBRID (i.e. 300) with a POOL that has all flash drives only?

File compression is available on hybrid in a pool with all flash drives only (same as for block compression).  It's also available on the AF Unity models as well of course.
