Unable to add vMax to Solutions Integration Service

Hi,

Running VSI for vmware webclient 6.2.

smi-s setup connected via GK devices.

Tested the setup with Storage intergrator for microsoft.

I'm unable to add the vmax systems to VSI. The error is :

Failed to create a new storage system. Details: Validation Error: For input string: "null"

In the logs there are no errors. When I click ok the systems is added, but refreshing the pools gives error :

Failed to synchronize storage pools. Details: For input string: "null"

I've searched support, but no mention of the error.

OK, So SMI-S is working perfectly, For the ESI, Have you checked the support matrix for your ESI version?

If you are using ESI v3.5 then as per ESSM you should upgrade your SMI-S to v4.6.2 and SE to v7.6.2 (here you are running 4.6.1)

Also note that ESI supports thin pools only, so if you do not have thin pools configured (rare to see nowadays though!) then the ESI will not list anything under storage pools tab.

If all of the above were ruled out then please open a case with EMC support to further investigate the logs. ESI logs are located at C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\EMC\ESI\Logs

The latest support matrix:

https://support.emc.com/docu55317_Simple-Support-Matrix-for-EMC--Storage-Integrator-%28ESI%29-Storage-Management-for-Windows-Suite.pdf?language=en_US

Hope this helps

Hi R_Skouw,

Welcome to EMC Community.

I assume you ran symcfg discover after presenting the GKs to your SMI-S server, SMI-S should see the array once you do this, you can also use testsmiprovider.exe located at C:\Program files\EMC\ECIM\ECOM\bin then run DV

Please share with us the output of the DV command..

Hope this helps

Correction on the above, ESI supports thin pools only, not SMI-S. I updated the post..

I've only tested the SMI-S installation with ESI, this works.\

Connecting a VSI to the SMI-S does not, and gives the error in my first post.

Is there a support matrix for the VSI ? (Cant find it)

Your SMI-S and Enginuity versions are fully supported.  Can you provide a more detailed explanation of the steps taken to produce the error.  For instance, are you trying to add the array through the VSI Web Client plug-in or through the SIS vApp?  Does SMI-S successfully connect using the default "admin" user and display the arrays?  Do you then select the array and then the error appears?  Was this a new 6.2 install or a data migration from 6.1?  Can you add a screenshot too?
