I had a good question the other day about virtualising EMC Control Center (ECC) and Symmetrix Management Console (SMC)

Now SMC is something we already offer as a vApp on PowerLink and it's requirements tend to be quite small so I'm happy that the virtualisation of that isn't a big deal.

ECC on the other hands is something I'm not so sure about, I found the following VMware KB Article which talks about the fact some features may not be available

“ControlCenter components that are not supported in VMware must be un-installed from the physical host before migrating that host to a Virtual Machine. For a list of ControlCenter components that are supported on an ESX Server guest, refer to the current version of the EMC ControlCenter Support Matrix available from EMC.”

Page 95-97 of the following EMC document details what components are supported on a virtualised ECC server based on the combination of hypervisor and guest OS chosen.

I'd be really interested to hear of any best practices  / potential gotcha's that people should be aware of when virtualising ECC.  The kind of stuff that has tripped people up or caused them issues further down the line.
