Block Level LUN Size for Windows

I want to direct attach a Windows 2008 Server to the VNX 5700 via FC.  I have about 5 TB of data and need to carve out LUN for this server from a block storage pool.  What is the best practice and recommended LUN size?  Do I carve out multiple LUN or one large LUN?

My other question is what is the best method to copy these data to the new LUN?  Does EMC have a utility for this?  Should I use something like Robocopy utility or do a backup and restore of the data?  I am looking for the quickest and most efficient method.  I need to maintain the folder structure and NTFS permission on the file and folder.

Thanks in advance,

LT

LUN size depends on what you are trying to deploy, have to take into consideration backup and recovery times. Is this a traditional file server ? Is your VNX5700 Unified (has datamovers) or block only ?

Yes, this is a traditional file server, HP DL380 with an attached MSA.  The data currently resides on the MSA.  We want to direct attach server to a VNX5700 Unified with datamovers via fiber.  The data will be moved from the MSA to the VNX Lun.

As you probably know Unified platform provides CIFS and NFS connectivity via datamovers. You can take advantage of that functionality and migrate traditional file servers to the datamovers instead of using dedicated physical file servers with direct/SAN attached block storage.
