CEPA support for VDM

Dear All,

Does anybody know if any version of DART allows to use CEPA for CIFS servers created on Virtual Data Movers?

When trying to do that on Celerra Simulator 6.0.36-4 I am getting the following output:

[nasadmin@localhost ~]$ /nas/bin/server_cepp VDM1 -service -stop
VDM1 :
Error 4035: VDM1 : server_cepp : operation not supported for VDM
[nasadmin@localhost ~]$ /nas/bin/server_file VDM1 -put cepp.conf cepp.conf
VDM1 : done
[nasadmin@localhost ~]$ /nas/bin/server_cepp VDM1 -service -start
VDM1 :
Error 4035: VDM1 : server_cepp : operation not supported for VDM
[nasadmin@localhost ~]$

I do not need to have any CIFS server configured on Data Mover so:

[nasadmin@localhost ~]$ /nas/bin/server_cepp server_2 -service -start
server_2 :
Error 13162905611: server_2 : No CIFS server found on the Data Mover.
[nasadmin@localhost ~]$

Is that a limitation of simulator or any version of DART?

When reading EMC® Celerra® Network Server Version 6.0.36.4 Release Notes I see there is reference for 300-009-996:

“Using Celerra Event Publishing Agent” – EMC Celerra Network Server Release 6.0 which states:

Page 8:

Data Movers on the Celerra Network Server must be configured with the CIFS protocol. You cannot

use a Virtual Data Mover for the CIFS protocol. Configuring Celerra for the Windows Environment

provides more information on configuring the CIFS protocol.

Hi Michael,

CEPA works the same way as CAVA on a physical data mover basis.

That means it is configured on a per physical data mover basis and will be effective for all CIFS servers on that data mover, no matter if they are configured on the PDM or a VDM.

Just create one global CIFS server on the physical DM and configure CEPA there like server_cepp server_2.

That global CIFS server doesnt have to have any user shares - its just used as an interface for the CEPA applications to talk to.

You can then later configure on a per file system basis if CEPA is used for a file system or not.

hope that helps

regards

Rainer
