btw, What do you mean with: it’s nothing more than crash consistent data unless you really close the application that’s using the LUN (or LUNs).

Database will be stopped, Snapshot will be created. Done! In case of an error while, let's say for example software update.

When there's an error in the update I roll back the snapshot. Right?

Seems the reply by email doesn't work (or it takes >15 minutes).

So you want to create snapshots on your storage (VNX) from the HP-UX comandline? Install Navisphere CLI (HP-UX) (https://support.emc.com/search/?text=unisphere%20cli&adv=y&facetResource=DOWN&os=7975) or Unisphere VNX Snapshots SnapCLI. The usage is the same as for any other LUN you want to take a snapshot of. But consider what you’re actually snapping: it’s nothing more than crash consistent data unless you really close the application that’s using the LUN (or LUNs).

file system is not flushed, so if anything is still in memory it's toast.

If you really want consistent data so it’s like when you boot a server and services started nicely and everything’s ok, you need to flush buffers / cache to disk and no files should be open. In fact just like you do a clean shut down of your host, create a copy and boot your host again. This way the data is absolutely clean and ready to use. Having a snapshot doesn’t mean your data is usable!!!

with RM you can use application specific plug ins (for certain applications anyway, like Exchange and SQL) which will flush buffers or put databases in the right state, so a snapshot will actually contain usable data.

Ok It's clear to me. RM is that the OLD Appsync? But it's just for Microsoft and I need it for HPUX. But good to mention the memory state. I am aware of it but almost forgot about it.
