Creating a hidden CIFS share?
I'm trying to create a hidden CIFS share, (the same way we have done on our NS units, and on our Windows servers) by naming the share with a $. (IE: "\\server\share$"
I am getting an error that the $ is not an allowed characeter.
I looked through the documentation and didn't seem to find anything.
Does anyone have any idea on this?
Thanks!

Sorry – my previous answer was for VNX – I haven’t tried it with VNXe GUI or uimcli

I think you can create hidden shares from CLI and GUI as well by just adding a dollar sign to the share name
On the server_export CLI you of course need to escape or quote the dollar sign

Hi,
Matteo was correct. On VNXe, we are not able to create a hidden share both from the GUI and uemcli(unisphere cli). We will have to use Windows MMC for creating a hidden share. This may be a limitation on VNXe, which may be fixed in future release.

Greetings,
This problem is fixed in the next VNXe OE software update, due for release later in September 2011.
