Drive pool recommendations for 3300
We are currently installing our VNXe3300. We have 30 600 gb SAS drives and want to run Raid 10 for our 5 ESX hosts which are the only users of this SAN. What is the recommended drive pool setup for our situation? Unisphere will allow me to create a 30 drive pool of Raid 10. My issue with this is lack of hot spares. Should I create at 24 drive pool and leave the remaining 6 drives as hot spares?

For RAID 10 configuration we require (3+3 R10) and hence for 30 SAS drives,
4 sets of (3+3 R10) (6.28 TB usuable capacity)
You can create hot spare as situation demands but the recommended hotspare configuration is 1 hot spare for every 30 drives (SAS or NL SAS).

Is it possible to use other custom RAID sizes/shapes? For example if i only had 12 disks and wanted to do 3+1 for the vault and then 6+1 for the remaining?

No, pool configurations cannot be chosen by the user, we use EMC best practice recommendations to decide the pool configuration.
