From KB 92307:

EMC's High Availability Validation Tool (HAVT) checks for the existence of the multiple HBAs, switches, paths, and failover software. The only failover software supported with the HAVT utility is EMC PowerPath. EMC Host Agent and PowerPath must be installed for the verification to pass.

This is the stand-alone tool that you can run, this also applies to hosts - you need these three things for Unisphere to show good havt status.

Thanks Glen but I've already been there, none of it applies.

The LUNS are in the storage group and the host sees them okay, but I still show HAVT Issues in Unisphere, so that eliminates the first link.

This is on RH6 so the Windows and AIX TIDs aren't relevant. Neither is PowerPath, as the host is using native DM multipath.

Interesting, I'll look into that.   This tool runs on the host?  I thought this was the wizard in Unisphere.

However, we also have two ESXi hosts using this array, using native ESXi MP, yet they happily show a status of ACTIVE -- no issues. So it appeared to me that only DM MPIO has an issue.

Okay, doing a search on support.emc.com,  on "High Availability Validation Tool ", and nothing shows up for it under "Downloads".  If this runs on the host, where do I get it??

The Unisphere Server Utility contains the HAVT test:

About the Unisphere Server Utility

The server utility allows you to perform the following functions:

◆ Update server information to the system

Lets you send the server name and IP address to the system and, if needed

later on, allows you to update or view this data. Registration Service

feature remains enabled after the installation of the server utility, the

utility automatically registers the server’s NICs or iSCSI HBAs with the

system and updates server information whenever the configuration

changes (for example, when you mount new volumes or create new

partitions).

◆ Configure iSCSI connections or mutual CHAP

For servers with Microsoft iSCSI initiators you can configure iSCSI

connections, such as logging on, logging off, or removing an iSCSI target,

and you can configure mutual CHAP. In order to use this option, you

must install the latest supported version of the Microsoft iSCSI initiator

software.

Note: You do not need to install the Microsoft iSCSI initiator software on servers

running the Windows Server 2008 operating system. The iSCSI initiator software

is part of the operating system.

Verify server high availability (HA)

Lets you determine if the server is configured for high availability (HA)

by verifying that the server has at least one connection path to each system

SP, and that PowerPath® or some other failover software, such as VMware

native failover, DMP, PV Links, or HP native failover for 11iV3 is running.

The utility does not detect any other native failover software, such as Sun

StorEdge Traffic Manager or Linux native multipath (MPIO).

Thanks!

So I guess it doesn't really matter then, if these hosts are running DM multipath, they're going to show up in Unisphere as having HAVT issues regardless. I just had hoped to clear that and have it show them as active (everything does appear to be working okay, far as I know).

They're not my hosts, so I don't have the option to use PowerPath instead, the sysadmin says it won't install correctly.  (I think they're actually OracleOS, based on RH) He does have the multipath running though, and they see their LUNs.
