Problem setting up an Advanced Storage Architecture (ASA) password

I've just installed the VNXe OE 2.2.0.17142. When combined with the latest version of the VSI USM, I should able to compress/decompress and clone VMs from within the vSphere client. In order to do this, I need to setup an ASA password.

So I log into Unisphere and select Settings > Shared Folder Server Settings. I click the "Configure Advanced Storage Access" button, select "Enable access for all hosts" (or per-host, it's doesn't make a difference to the result for me), enter a password and click Finish. The operation fails in less than a second and  I get the following error:

"The system encountered an unexpected error. Try again and if that attempt fails then please go to Support > Need more help? > Live Chat to chat with EMC support personnel. If this option is not available, contact your service provider (Error Code: 0x6000003)."

Needless to say, I've retried this without success. I've not had the time yet to do a Live Chat (it's the weekend and I don't want to spend it working on a support call), but wondered if anyone else has applied this update and if setting up an ASA password works for them?

Thanks

JR

JR,

I get the exact same issue as well.  I just got on the the 2.2.0.17142 release also.  I tried the online chat but that didn't seem to go anywhere and the tech passed me on to some other department.  So now I am awaiting a callback.

I have a VNXe 3100 dual.

Well I've logged it with EMC who have reproduced the problem on my array via WebEx and then taken a copy of the system diagnostic information.

I'm guessing that since both myzyr and myself are having the same issue, that we've hit a bug.

I'm running a dual SP VNXe 3100.

Hello JR,

I suspect Technical Support will have provided assistance for your specific Service Request. Additionally I would to provide an update for yourself and others that may view this discussion:

There is an anomaly that affects the "Dual SP VNXe3100" models whereby the Advanced Storage Access feature does not accept a password. For further details please refer to the Solution ID 'emc290548' within our Knowledge Base. You can access this via a search of the id from VNXe Product Page or the following direct link: emc290548

If anyone else encounters this issue, please contact your support provider for assistance and refer to the above referenced solution available. If you need further assistance from EMC, you can access VNXe 'Live Chat' Technical Support 24x7 very easily, direct from Unisphere via the 'Support->Need More Help' screen or through the following link: VNXe Live Chat

Kind Regards

Graeme

JR,
It appears that there was just a new patch released yesterday that addresses this issue.  I was able to get further, but I couldn't use special characters in the password, otherwise it would error out with something about not being able to create some user.  Maybe it was just me though.

Thanks for the update myzyr.

I'm going to wait a few days to see how this works out. My VNXe has special characters in the password (as per our security policy) and I've seen a post that suggests long filesystem names might be an issue. I've got an NFS share that is 20 characters long, so don't want that to break.

I'm keen to try the new vSphere integrations and VAAI, but not at the expense of more problems! ;-)
