Hyper-V Live Migration for Meltdown & Spectre Update
Hi guys.
I have 3 PowerEdge C6320 Servers hosting multiple virtual machines running in Hyper-V in each one of them. I want to update the BIOS/Firmware for these physical servers for Meltdown & Spectre patches without any downtime on the VMs.
Let's say that Host A has 3 VMs and Host B has 2 VMs running on Hyper-V. I want to live migrate all 3 VMs on Host A to Host B first before the update to ensure there isn't any downtime.
Is it possible to live migrate back the 3 VMs from the unpatched Host B to the patched Host A?
Is there any concerns that I should know about this process?
Thanks!

Hi Josh,
Thank you for the info. Is there any possible way to update the hosts without any downtime to the guests?
Thanks!

Hi there. I'm trying to figure out if upgrading our C6220s to C6320s is enough of a speed boost for our Virtual hardware. Do you still have them? Is there any possbility of renting a few hours on a clean 2012 or 2016 vm to install FileMaker Pro and run some performance tests? I'd be willing to pay for the time.
