Ad-Aware Warning?!

I do a manual search every day for my various spyware and anti-virus programs. To as I tried to pull up Ad-Aware to look for the updates I got the following error message:  " Your definition file has been compromised. Please delete your defintion file and restart Ad-Aware. C:\Program\Files\Ad-Aware SE Personal\defs.ref."  There was an OK button, which when pushed then brought up the Ad Aware front page and I was able to search for any updates as usual. Just wondering if anyone else has received this message, and just running it by the board about how to proceed. As far as I know the only way I can delete the defintion file is to remove the program and reinstall it. Thanks as usual for any insights.

No. Do you have the authenticity check plug-in?? I do. But I updated Friday just fine.

Not sure what you mean by the authenticity check plug-in, but I had made no changes to any settings. At any rate, after doing it several times yesterday, the front page screen pulled just fine today without the error message. Guess I can put the episode into the "Strange and Unexplainable Glitches" drawer for the time being, seeing if it returns.

Dale,

information on the  Authenticity Check  can be found here:   http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=73

HOWEVER, Joe53 advocated NOT to install this add-on, because
1) it's a BETA version
2) once installed, there was no option to UNinstall this add-on, and
3) once installed, it also removed the UNinstall option for Ad-Aware itself !

it's possible that some (or all) of these issues have been addressed and rectified in the interim, and if Joe sees this, he may have more to say...
