Avast - resource hog?

Question

My Dell has pre-installed the McAfee antivirus (3 month
trial).

I actually like McAfee, but I find their products overpriced.

I am considering going with the free Avast antivirus - which generally
has good reviews - except complaints that it uses a lot of CPU resources
and slows down your system.

Does anyone know / have experience as to how Avast's demand on
resources compares with Mcafee?
Because I hardly notice Mcafee's presence.

I am using the free Avast now and I have noticed that my computer runs better with Avast than Mcafee.

I found this disabling all but Standard Shield helps.

I run Avast! now and think it is fine. In no way is it as much a resourse hog as McAfee or Norton.

I have used them all, McAfee does succK up those resourses big time.

My opinion based on my experience is that you will be fully protected with a lot less resourse usage with Avast!.
