Cannot fix Norton AntiVirus Live Update
I keep getting a message every time I turn on the computer that there is exposure on Norton Antivirus in that I don't have the latest definitions. (I have Professional Edition 2003.) Some messages tell me to run Live Update. So I run Live Update and I keep getting the following message:
The following updates have been aborted:
Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions has 1 aborted update(s).
Reason: LU1875: This update failed during its preprocessing welcome text phase.
I tried to have the technical help on the Norton website help fix it but as it runs I keep getting the Windows message that the program is not responding and needs to shut down.
Can anyone assist me here?? What is LU1875? How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance to any and all who can help.

Did you see page 2 of the fix, there is an autofix tool for this

Like rsberger, I just recently began getting the same error message. So, I followed your tip. Ran the tool you suggested on the second page of the Symantec Support site through IE (though I'm a die-hard Firefox user). Easier than the instructions that were on the first page. However, after I ran the auto-fix tool, my virus defs were listed as up-to-date (6/29/06), but when I tried to do a Live Update through the software itself, I still got the same LU1875 error code.
How is this any different than manually running the Intelligent Updater from this site: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download.html?
I had run the Intelligent Updater yesterday (my virus defs showed they were dated 6/28/06). So what's the use of the tool? I'm getting very aggravated with Norton Antivirus.

To answer your question, between the tools, there probably is none. It would appear that there is an ongoing problem with this issue at Symantec. I refered the previous poster to page 2, because, like you, I felt like page 1 was a bit complicated to fix a download problem.
Have you tried to go directly to the site for updates, instead of invoking them through the program?

When I initally got the alert yesterday that my virus definitions were out of date, I tried to run the Live Update. That's when I noticed the error code and subsequently viewed the long and winded instructions on the Symantec site. So, I went ahead and used the Intelligent Updater (I've used that before, doesn't require any Active X controls like the auto-fix and can be run using Firefox). I knew that would update my virus definitions, which was all I was really concerned about. However, I realized that unless I cleared up this error code, I would need to download my definitions manually, otherwise the LiveUpdate feature in Norton Antivirus would not run automatically. That's why I tried the feature that you suggested.
Looks like unless I want to unregister and then re-register my LiveUpdate following the directions given on the Symantec site, I'll just go ahead and use the Intelligent Updater manually (no big deal for me). When my subscription runs out, I'm cleaning NAV off my system since this is not the first issue I've had with the program (and since it's the 2003 version I know Symantec will require me to update to a newer version of their software). Thanks for your help. Appreciate it. :)

Thanks, my friend. Your solution did the trick. My question is whether Live Update is now fixed or do I need to do this repair periodically.

rsberger,
As stated before, I had the same problem as you. I ran the tool suggested, which ran the Intelligent Updater last week. I waited to see if my version of NAV 2003 automatically updated itself this week (updates were pushed through dated 7/5/06). It did not. When I tried to run LiveUpdate this morning, I received the same LU1875 error message. So, I unregistered and registered LiveUpdate according to the instructions. It was really quite easy, taking about 5 minutes. It worked.
Bookmark this page in your browser (IE or Firefox) for easy access: LU1875 This Update Failed . . .
I skipped Step 2, since my NAV did not have that feature. I have only Norton AntiVirus, so I completed items #8 through 14 and 22 in Step 3. Then I completed items #8 through 14 and 22 in Step 4. I then ran LiveUpdate once my computer restarted with no more error message and my virus definitions up to date (7/5/06).
Give it a try if your virus definitions have not updated automatically or if your LiveUpdate still gives the same error code.

Thanks for your help with trying to fix LU1875. I did what you said, followed the instructions - all five steps - but there was a problem. On step 5, when I clicked on the "miscellaneous" button, the window that opened did not contain the box for "Turn protection on for my Symantic product" as the instructions said would be at the bottom of the right pane. This was the very last thing I had to do in the 3 pages of instructions. I ran LiveUpdate and I still get the LU1875 error message. So it seems that unless I "turn on" the protection, which I cannot do, I will be unable to use LiveUpdate. There was a second solution suggested in case the above one didn't work (it was an autofix) and it seemed at the very least to download and install protection and latest definitions.
Does anyone (bamajim?) know how I can finally fix this so that I can use LiveUpdate??
