IE10 (win 8) Java Problems - Deployment Toolkit, isInstalled Class and Sun Java Console
Hi to all,
I am using Win 8 IE10. Java installed is 7u15. But i checked on IE10 Internet Options - manage adds-on, i found these problems : Deployment Toolkit, isInstalled Class and Sun Java Console are still listed in the adds-on list, even after I uninstalled and installed the latest J7u15. So, I disabled them.
I believe one of these or all of them have caused my IE10 unable to display/run some Java contents/apps/programs on some secured websites, even though i disabled them under the "manage adds-on".
Can you help advise how to remove, first of all, the (Oracle) Deployment Toolkit from my system? As this should be the remainder of old Java component which can't be removed by the add/remove program in Windows. And causing the problem above, "crashed" with the latest Java 7 u15 installed in my system.
Subsequestly, what are these isInstalled Class and Sun Java Console adds-on in my system? Are they risky or creating problem? Can or should I remove them as well? And how to do that?
For the isInstalled Class, I checked its details/more info, it reads...i approved it to run it on website : "facebook.com", and is a file name as wsdetect.dll.
As for the Sun Java Console, I checked its details/more info, it says...a Browser Exention type, showing no file no folder for it though.

Why do you believe your Java Deployment Kit is a left-over from an older version?
When you go to Manage Add-Ons in IE, if you click on each of the add-ons (e.g., Deployment Toolkit), it should tell you [toward the middle/left of that screen] the version number of that add-on. The current Java should show as 7.0.150.3 ; so if you confirm this version for each of your plug-ins, they're current.
If you have the current versions, they're all probably needed (to be enabled) for Java to function properly.
[As I noted elsewhere, I don't use Java on my own systems, so I'm not sure what else I can advise you about it.]

I bought and received this system from Dell on 20 Nov 2012, and only recently i (in Feb-2013, the period I started to have Java problems) checked/found out this adds-on, and I have no idea why, how and when this DT comes into my system.
I can only remember since Nov-12, i did update the java (either by auto and/or go java.com) from original version (in Nov 2012) in my system to j7u11, j7u13 and now j7u15, throughout the time from Nov/Dec-12, Jan-13 to Feb-13 (now).
What do you think?
Anyway, so this comes back to my original first post above, hope you and together with other experts like you guys, Red Dawn, etc...can help on my post above.

When/IF you decide to reinstall Java, you can download it from
32-bit browser http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=74781
64-bit browser http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=74783
I realize you have a 64-bit operating system. Java corresponds to the BROWSER, so if you're using 32-bit IE, you need the 32-bit browser version.

The Deployment Kit version 7.0.90.5 indeed appears to be old. Let's try the following:
Download and SAVE JavaRa 2.1 (Stable Version) from http://singularlabs.com/software/javara/javara-download/
This is a ZIPped file... after downloading, you need to RIGHT-click on it to EXTRACT ALL its contents.

[Note: The tutorial still mentions an older version 2.0 , but we'll go with the newer 2.1 noted above]
To summarize the tutorial:
First, be sure to close any browsers that are open
navigate to the JavaRa program, run it (give UAC permission if requested).
In the lower left, hit SETTINGS, and check the box to Create a log file. Hit BACK.
Select REMOVE JAVA RUNTIME.
Step1: Click on the drop-down menu (which may appear to be empty until you click on it) to select (one at a time) each version of Java appearing there, to RUN its UNINSTALLER.
After running each uninstaller you find there, click on NEXT.
Step2: Click on Perform Removal Routine. You'll get a pop-up message indicating if it removed anything. Click on NEXT.
I would [temporarily] skip step 3, and select Close this wizard for step 4. Click FINISH.
Click on the Additional Tasks button. Check the 4 boxes there, and hit RUN. Then BACK. Exit JavaRa.
At this point, your system is supposed to be free of Java.
You should find a log file in the JavaRa directory, with the name JavaRa-(today's date). That will show you what JavaRa did.
What you should do next is check out the Add-ons, to confirm they're all gone.
If they're all gone, and you want to keep/reinstall Java, you can do so at this point. [Question: Are you sure you actually use Java for something? There's no reason to keep it around "just because": Java is now considered a major security risk, and people who don't need/use it should uninstall it. Those who use it ocassionally in their browsers can install it, but should DISable it in their browser until actually needed.]
Note: If you find some of the add-ons are still showing up, DON'T reinstall java. Rather, reply back letting us know which ones... and also, copy/paste the JavaRa log file [You may "censor-out" personal information, if any, that appears] , and hopefully someone will be able to advise you about the next step.

Actually Oracle has further caveats for windows 8.
Will Java run in Start screen on Windows 8?
Microsoft Windows 8 does not support plug-ins in the Start screen and therefore Java will not run in the Start screen. You will have to switch to the Desktop screen to run Java.
When will Java be supported in Windows 8?
Windows 8 is officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10. Java will only be supported in Desktop screen. Java will not run in the Start screen.
Why do I only get the 32-bit Java when I go to Java.com?
Java.com provides a Java version based on your browser and operating system (OS). If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 8, you have access to 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Internet Explorer 10 on your system. The desktop version of the Windows 8 OS does not run in a full 64-bit mode (unless you have Enhanced Protected Mode in Internet Explorer 10 turned on), thus 32-bit Java is the default.

Hi ky,
Before I try the JavaRa 2.1 (to remove the old version DT as my goal), should I uninstall the j7u15 first (under Windows Control Panel - Uninstall a program)?
Note: as I had said in my first post above, this uninstall j7u15 and reinstall (from java.com) would still have this DT remained in my adds-on list here.
And FYI, currently I have disabled the Java (j7u15) in my system via the Java Control Panel, as advised by you in your related posts.
What do you think?
I read in Java website, they recommend using 32-bit IE or browser, not 64-bit browser, so I will only consider 32-bit java install.
Yes, I do need Java to view some web pages...i got no choice, as those websites (currently) still insist running with their Java applets..

Part of the JavaRa process --- in step 1 --- is to have you run any Java uninstallers it finds on your system. If you prefer to run that uninstaller first, directly from your control panel, that's fine... and in doing so, you shouldn't find it listed under step 1 in JavaRa. [Alternatively, if you don't remove it first via control panel, you'll be able to do so as part of step 1. Either way, it's the same uinstaller.]
Yes, I realize that you've already uninstalled/reinstalled the latest java, without it getting it rid of the old DT. That's why we're trying JavaRa, where Step 2 and/or its Additional Tasks will hopefully remove the old DT. ( Hopefully = I can't guarantee it, but it's certainly worth the try. ) That's why you should report back, and if this didn't work, include a copy of the Javara log. If the old DT is still there, we'll see what else can be tried.

I have tried the JavaRa2.1. And I ran it twice to try both ways of completely clearing out Java. The end result is not ideal, maybe still bad in another word, as follows :
(1.) First trial's log

Note: The old DT was gone by itself (i mean...not showing up at adds-on list), strangely, i really have no idea what happened and why was it so gone by itself (i mean...not showing up at adds-on list) EVEN BEFORE I wanted to try the FIRST run of the JavaRa in this morning, is strange this is so...could it be because after my yesterday shutdown and then the old DT was eliminated when I started/booted up my computer in this morning??
NOW, it looks like this "Sun Java Console" is the problem, the tough one. (Never mind the old DT now right? As anyway it is not there showing at adds-on list anymore, somehow...what do you think?)
1 more thing :
After the second trial (all Java removed supposedly so, but not totally, still having the Sun Java Console adds-on showing up), another strange thing is : when I restarted my computer immediately after the second trial, there is a small little box automatically come out to appear on my Desktop screen (at the left top corner) by itself, and in it shows a x red box (for closing it), and beneath it is a tiny small blank grey box. This box cannot be expanded, except only able to click on the x red box (that will close it).
It is tough. Any idea? And hope for any help...

more...continued from my post above..
I found out that when I opened my IE10 browser just after reinstalled Java j7u15, this prompted the UAC :
once I clicked Yes to this UAC, the "Sun Java Console" would then start to show up at the "manage adds-on" list.
And another: "Java console" would also start to appear as one of the command listed in either "View" or "Tools" of the IE Manu bar.
I am not sure why is that so..
The problem with this (clicked Yes) is that once Java Console appearing in all these places, the Java problem that mentioned in my very first post above will start to happen. And remind that this is the root of the problem I posted here and am trying to solve it...(perhaps you can read my very first post above again).
Hope for some idea to solve this problem.
By the way, is that "-old - high" (show in the UAC picture above) the cause or triggering this problem (that mentioned in my very first post above)?
ky, and perhaps just anyone, any idea?

I'll give this one more shot:
[Preface: I'm working on a Win7 machine, so it's possible you might have to modify some of these instructions for Win8]:
CLOSE YOUR BROWSERS. Open your Control Panel. Click on Programs. That should reveal a Java icon (the Java Control Panel). Click to open it.
Go to the ADVANCED tab. The second group of entries there are for the Java Console, giving you the choice to Show it, Hide it, or Do Not Start it.
You can try these, one at a time, to see if it makes any difference.
For example, if yours was set to Show, first try the Hide option. Click APPLY, then Okay. Open IE, and see what's happening.
If that doesn't change things, then, after closing IE, go back to the Control Panel and try the Do Not Start Console option. APPLY, OK, open IE again.

By the way, when I open IE, at first I see [only] two Java entries under Add-ons: Java Plug-In SSV Helper, and Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper. However, once I start actually running a Java applet, the Deployment Toolkit then appears as a third Add-on. (Mine shows the current version, 7.0.150.3) So perhaps this explains the DT appearing and disappearing.

As for me, I am testing the related java code 128 generation projects these days. Do you have any ideas about it? Or any good suggestion? I am totally a green hand on bar code generating field. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
