Norton vs PC-Cillin

Hi,

My husband's Inspiron 6000 came with Norton 2005.  My new Dim E520 came with Trend Micro PC-Cillin 14.

Fry's has PC-Cillin 2007 for Zero after rebates.
He can't update to the  new AVG because it won't work with the Norton.

Which do you all like better? Norton or PC-Cillin?  Pros, Cons?

Should we get the PC-Cillin for the Inspiron6000 and uninstall the Norton?  Then he could use the newest AVG.   And he'll need to renew Norton eventually anyway.

Thanks,
Christine

AVG antivirus or antispyware?  It is not a good idea to be running 2 or more antivirus programs at the same time, so you don't want both.

But to answer your question, personally I prefer PC-Cillin to Norton as it seems to cause fewer performance issues, but I use neither on my own PCs...AVG Antivirus on everything but my 64-bit Vista (aVast).  To be fair, everyone's experience is going to be different, so any advice you get should be taken with a grain of salt.

In your case, the one thing PC-Cillin has over Norton is going to be price.

I have used both Nortons and PC-Cillin, but im my opinion nothing beats Kaspersky, that's just my opinion.

I'm thinking of switching to Kaspersky. All that I want is a good antivirus. No Firewall. No E-Mail screening. With Kaspersky can you select which features you want and end up only with antivirus protection. And does Kaspersky Tell you what is being updated and let you select which downloads to allow. Like Windows Update.

I have had PC- Cillin for nearly one year. The shortcomings that I see are:
1. They do NOT tell you what they are downloading during the daily updates.
2. You do NOT have the option of what segments to download.
It's not like Windows Update where you can exercise control. I have all PC-Cillin options except for the antivirus turned OFF. Use the Windows Firewall and you don't need any E-Mail security. I also have Ad-Aware and Windows Defender. So antivirus is all that I would want to download. I will go BitDefender or Kaspersky when my PC-Cillin subscription runs out. The PLUS for PC-Cillin is their support.

I believe kaspersky Internet Security is free also at fry's after rebates. That would be the option I would choose over Norton or Pc-Cillin.

You can check out kaspersky's website here  www.kaspersky.com  and they also have a forum where all questions are promptly answerd.

You can purchase just the Kas a/v if that is all that you prefer to have.Kas internet security gives you the full array of protection and in my opinion it functions seamlessly and it is incredibly light on the system but you can disable any protections in it that you prefer not to run and as far as updates,All definition updates are automatic but you get to decide on maintenance packs and new versions whether you want to install them or not.But Kas a/v comes with proactive defense which works as a very good shield against all types of spyware. Here is a link with plenty of info and a free trial for either the a/v or internet security suite. Before a kas install though be sure to do a complete uninstall on any a/v or firewall that you already have installed or you will have install issues.
