Updates Aug. 1/2013. HitmanPro 3.7.7 - Build 202

"Hengelo, The Netherlands, August 1, 2013 – SurfRight, a developer of tools that give users more control over their pc security, announced today it has added Kaspersky Lab’s anti-virus technology to HitmanPro’s cloud scanning infrastructure. Users of HitmanPro already had direct access to in-cloud malware identification technologies from Bitdefender and Emsisoft, but with the addition of Kaspersky Lab new malware siblings are identified even sooner."

Build 202 (2013-08-01)

  • IMPROVED: Forensic clustering. In previous build, the cluster information was sometimes not available.
  • IMPROVED: Zeus/Zbot behavioral-based detection.
  • IMPROVED: Fixed various small issues.
  • ADDED: In-cloud malware intelligence from Kaspersky Lab.

Current users of HMP will be automatically updated to this latest build when they open the program.

New users can download here: http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads/

Comment:

Kaspersky, Emsisoft, and Bitdefender rank/score in the top tier of all the AV test sites I trust. The addition of the Kaspersky engine to the HMP arsenal is welcome.

The automatic internal updater in HMP downgraded the most recent version back  to the previous on my XP/sp3 and Win 7 systems. Others at Wilders are reporting the same.

It appears that 3.7.7 Build 202 was having some issues:

Currently the website is also only offering the 201 build for download.

Build 203 (2013-08-05)

  • FIXED: On some hardware the default Direct Disk Access scanning method caused the PC to become less responsive.
  • UPDATED: Embedded white lists.

==============

Remark:   I am simply reporting the above information I located online.   I do not use this product, so I can't personally vouch for anything.

Thanks ky.

HMP automatically updated to 3.7.7 build 203 without problem on all my systems today, and works well. Quick scans take less than one minute.

From Wilders HMP thread, this advice:

"Direct Disk Access
When build 203 is released, we recommend everybody to set the disk access mode [Settings>Advanced tab] in HitmanPro back to Direct Disk Access. Compatible Disk Mode makes HitmanPro scan like a regular antivirus program and will not detect deeply embedded rootkits."

Build 203 downloaded and installed without any problem. The usual quick and thorough scan and no apparent conflicts with other programs. :emotion-1:

Thanks for the confirmation, Dale. I always worry a little when I recommend some lesser-used products.
