dwwin.exe , window automatically shuts down after starting

Question

i have dell inspiron 630m laptop and windows xp (sp2) is my operating system . Recently when I opened an attachment from an unknown person (birthday.zip, which i scanned before opening through mcafee..which is of no use !!!..) it poped up a window named dwwin.exe and said ' The application is failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down' and simultaneously my CD tray also ejected ( no CD was there) and in background it started to end program 'realplay.exe' then 'Shellconhiddenwindow'. And ultimately it logged off . Now if I relogin or restart the same thing is happening . Sometime its showing end program of 'mpftray.exe' or 'flash player 5.0 r 30' or 'osa.exe' etc. Now I am not able to log into the normal mode , though safe mode is working. After some analyzation I understood the after starting windows XP , it immediately shuts down , so whatever program tries to launch it has to end , as windows itself is shutting down / logged off. I did virus scan through mcafee ( which i started to believe a junk !!!) , spy bot , Xoftspyse but none shown a virus . I think by opening the birthday.zip attachment somewhere some system key's value got configured to log off/shut down . I replaced dwwin.exe ( which i understand a error reporting tool of my op sys) from another xp , sp 2 m/c..but that did not solve the problem . Can anybody pls help me regarding this  .

Since you are able to boot into safe mode, try running McAfee in safe mode and see what it finds.

Or, if you are able to get to the Safe Mode selection screen, have you tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" choice?

I'd like to see your pc working well enough so we can get a Hijackthis log

yeap, I run mcafee in safe mode ..but that did not find a problem ( not even spy bot or Xoftspy ..) . Whatever it is , I even tried 'Last Good Known Configuration' and it did not worked . How come I can post a hijackthis log ? Do I need to install 'HIjackthis' software from net ( I am very scared to down load anything from net !!) and then run it and post the log ?

Thanks for your response and I expect u and other Tach Gurus will help me to get rid of this problem .

after a lot of analyzation I would like to say this might not be  a virus / trozan problem . Somewhere some system key / registry key / software got corrupted . When after start up that software tries to run , it crashes and windows logs off . Even I cannot see eventviewer to track which software is crashing . Its saying me ' interface is unknown'...I tried to go to run --> msconfig --> startup and unchecked  some services to startup , but as i donno which is causing the problem ..I am really breaking my head for last two week.. After start up it pops us the error reporting message 'dwwin.exe , application failed to initialize , because the windows station is shutting down ' and ejects my CD tray and logs off..
