There are no "higher" versions. This is a very very very very very very very OLD system.
INTEL changes ram and chipset and sockets and everything else with successive generations of Core I3 I5 I7.
Bios should be updated BEFORE changing CPU and with antivirus software UNINSTALLED. Doing this the other way round bricks the machine. Dell XPS 8500 / Vostro 470 System BIOS.

Each Generation is slightly better.
However they also swap pins around on the sockets to force you to buy new stuff. 4th Gen and up is NEVER an option. Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell.
2700K is 2nd Gen but its LGA 1155 Intel® HD Graphics 3000

Don't fall victim to the Mhz myth. A few hundered Mhz wont make more than a few percent difference.

Yeah, is an i73770K or i72700K the better choice?
I've read where the 2700K is more solidly built.

@speedstep this in some regards is
missing information. Needs to be clarified.
the Dell Vostro shares the same American Mega Trends Vbios as the Dell XPS 8500 and the Dell OptiPlex Tower models.
that means XEON PROCESSORS are compatible with the Dell vostro 470.
The top tier XEON sku is the E3-1295-v2 which has a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a max boost clock of 4.1Ghz and comes with intel UHD graphics.. The E3-1290-V2 does not have intel UHD onboard graphics.
The E3-1290-v2 chips is basically the max intel tuning of the intel i7 3770K sku.
tested on the bench while the base frequency and boost seems spectacular because of the next generation falls .05% shy of a bone stock i7 4790 non K sku.
The only downside to intel 3rd gen was lacking AVX-2 and which was a 128bit compression instruction encoder which is usually for video capture and render and less than 1% of video games on the market currently use that encoder.
While I have moved on to intel 10th gen i7 in my office. The dell vostro 470 with xeon E3-1290 V2 is still the daily driver in the living room when all the kids want to play online gaming. For old tech it still miraculously plays phenomenally well for gaming.
