Hi Experts,

A question regarding to VxRail.storage.

For the storage in VxRail, is VSAN pre-built in the appliance?

Also,  for single node usage, is VSAN still a requirement?

February 16th, 2016 23:00

Hello!

Many thanks for this presentation of VxRail! Is there any chance to find Educational content on EMC Education Website?

I've just completed back my VCE-CIA pas week and did not see any content regarding VxRail.

I'm wondering how to become sale specialist or associate certified on VxRail line of product.

Thanks for the answer!

Regards,

Jacques Marengo

VSAN is the software defined storage solution and is always a requirement with VxRail.

Also keep in mind that VxRail will be able to grow in single node increments, however a VxRail solution cannot start with a single node.

Yes, VSAN is built in to the appliance along with vSphere and vCenter

Thanks for the Answer.

I've Taken the free lesson and did pass the quite easy test. Useful one as usual.

Cheers,

Jacques

Hi Jacques. You should find the information you are looking for here.  Free VxRail Application Technical Overview

if you have a login to the EMC Education site.  Hope that helps!

What are the usable storage capacities of the different models?  Seems that the specs document raw disk capacities, not usable.  Is there a reasonably simple calculation to determine approximate usable capacity with VSAN?

Where can we access the sizing tool?

February 17th, 2016 08:00

The usable will depend on the FTT (Failures to Tolerate) setting within VSAN.  This is default set to "1", which is basically a mirror.  I'd suggest using the sizing tool to get your raw:usable number as there are some options you can choose.  As a "rough and tumble" calculation, you get a little less than 50% (VSAN take 1% for formatting overhead, and there is some space reserved on the first appliance for the infrastructure VMs).

The sizing tool has been posted to InsideEMC and should be on the VxRail Enablement center later this week.

Who controls the VxRail QoS? Is it vSAN, EMC hardware/software?

QoS is a new feature in VSAN 6.2, which will be part of the VxRail release later in Q2.

For more information on the QoS feature in VSAN 6.2, see https://blogs.vmware.com/virtualblocks/2016/02/10/whats-new-vmware-virtual-san-6-2/

Hello, here are some doubts:

  • Is the Recovery Point included for synchronous replication between sites?
  • Does the RP's replication works with VMware's linked clones or only with VMs? Can you explain more?
  • Can I use the RP Virtual Appliance?
  • I am working in a VDI project. Is the Horizon View included? How should I proceed?

Thanks,

Max

I understand VxRails scale-out capabilities, but what about scale-up?

Is there an opportunity for a customer to upgrade the storage to SSD's or higher capacity SSD's (Or RAM?) in the future?
