Windows 10 on a Dell XPS M1530?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 that is a few years old and I was thinking about upgrading from the windows 7 I have on it, to Windows 10. It shipped with Vista.. to give you an idea of the age. Has anyone tried Windows 10 on this model? I have found articles indicating Windows 8.1 worked on it, but nothing for Windows 10 yet.

Windows 10 should work on it since the requirements are very low. Problem is that is will not work very well on your 8 year old model.. You should skip the upgrade. You will be getting windows 10 on your next computer.

It should work fine and you already have the base Windows 7 Retail license to upgrade from.

I just downgraded from Windows 10 back to Windows 7... The Windows 10 network driver for the Intel (R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN does not work. When I download a large file, the network connection would drop and you're forced to reset your wifi card or reboot.
I experienced a similar problem a few years ago trying to upgrade to Windows 8.
The driver that works fine for me is version 11.5.0.32 from Intel. Knowing how Microsoft forces driver updates, I'm not keen on wasting time trying to upgrade this machine to Windows 10...

i didnt even optimize it for performance.
Great computer. Already 8 years old, but still works well, in the barn though ;)

My M1530 works OK, even though the video driver is not supported and W10 installed the generic driver. I now have upgraded 6 machines, and the three oldest seem to actually run smoother and faster than with Win 8.1.
For the agn WiFi problem, to to the Device Manager for the card and defeat the “n“ mode.

Thanks for the 802.11n solution. I was beating my head against the wall trying to figure out why it wasn't working once I upgraded to 10!
I owe you a beer!!

Great!
I finally got around to prying a Win 10 driver for my M1530 out of Nvidia, and found one issued 7/29, and it works great. I now will see if I can find a better way around the wireless problem. There have been several posts for wireless issues in Win 10, all different, and all solved by removing the N function. I also found a video driver (for Win 7) for my old D9100 which also works OK. Still can't get one for my E1705.

Hello KIRKD,
Even I am facing issues related to wifi connectivity where I get can't connect to network error. I have upgraded my Dell XPS M1530 laptop to Windows 10 64 bit operating system. Some times I am able to connect to wifi but mostly I have to disable and enable the wifi network to restore the connectivity. Can you please tell me how can I remove the N function to fix this issue or if something else needs to be done to fix the issue ?
Thanks

Go to the Device Manager and double click on the wireless entry under Network Adaptors. Select Properties and then click on the Advanced tab. There will be a numbrt of entries and a drop down section. Loik for an entry that relates to the "n" function. Click on the droo-down menu and select to deactivate. However, some wireless "n" adaptors do not have the ability to deactivate.

I too am having this issue with the WiFi 4965AGN disconnecting. I have disabled the "N" function in the WiFi card properties. The machine was absolutely fine with Win 8.1 so I'm surprised I have this issue with Windows 10.
Folk that have it working OK....can you confirm what driver version you have installed and whether it's Intel or Microsoft?
I have loads of errors like this collection in my System event log too:
The description for Event ID 5005 from source netwlv64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
\Device\NDMP16
Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file
And then some of these:
The network interface "Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets.
Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset.
This network interface has reset 10 time(s) since it was last initialized.
Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone for posting issues and solutions here for this laptop. I am going to be attempting the upgrade today so I think I have everything I need to see it through. Glad to see the Dell community helping out! If this goes well i may just try the upgrade on my main machine.

My XPS 1530 is 64 bit and has an SSD drive. Tried the upgrade twice with same results. "No operating system found" message. Master boot record is hosed but rest of data still there. I restored an image backup and now it's back to Win 7.
Any ideas for how to proceed are appreciated.

Driver I have, which is 32-bit was most likely installed during the Win 10 update, but possibly during the Win 8 update. :
13.3.0.137 dated 8/15/2010

Hi KirkD,
Thanks lot for providing the version of your wifi driver which is 13.3.0.137 dated 8/15/2010. I downloaded the 64 bit version of the same driver and after installing disabled the "n" function as suggested and finally it worked.
So key is installing the same version of the software.
Thanks
