What change fixed what broken functionality specifically?

I just wanted to confirm the solution posted near the bottom of page 3 worked for me. Basically it advised to reset the RTC "Real Time Clock", to do this you must ensure the laptop is plugged in and for me booted in to windows. Then hold down the power button for 25 seconds after that you will notice the charging light on the front edge flashes, you can then let go of the button and it should flash a few times more. When you then press the power button to turn back on the laptop it will boot up and say the RTC has been reset and you need to press and key to enter the bios and reset the time. Once I had done this I could shutdown the laptop perfectly without it restarting in flight mode. I am running the latest version of windows without any issues. Hope this helps.

Does this also solve the inability to shut down the laptop without disabling the Fast Boot option? And, the rapid battery drain?

Please see later in the thread about resetting the RTC. I think this is a solution - it certainly worked for me.

After resetting RTC, do I have to set anything else? I'm not a technician.

I don't recommend trying this fix, I did and now I can't boot into Windows. I can get to a diagnostic screen but nothing on it fixes it.

I have been testing this procedure this morning.  As of this time, it seems to repair whatever was wrong with the FCU build upgrade.  I used the Dell Procedure linked below.

It should be noted, the vPro provisioning is reset and the Bios defaults are reset which would mean if you have altered the SATA configuration, it would need to be reset.   If you were using a PCIe drive and had changed the SATA to AHCI or Disabled, you would need to reset SATA or see something like skysurfer86 experienced.  The vPro provisioning would normally be related to an enterprise situation, so I have no experience.

I went through the process as described, when shutdown and power attached.

After I pushed and held the power button, the system started to boot.  During that time I held the power button down the prescribed 25 seconds and released.  

After I released the system started the process.  At one point during a dark screen the white light blinked 3 times.  I got a little worried a couple of times when the system seemed to have stopped but after waiting, it completed and rebooted.  

During the reboot I got the message about checking the Bios settings, which is when I reset my SATA configuration and Clock.  After setting and saving, the system rebooted normally.

So far I have tested the shutdown without disabling the Fast Startup and it shows "Shutdown (hybrid)".  The system does go into hibernation when that is set so the battery is being saved during that time, as it was prior to the FCU.

Unless I run into something I have not yet seen, it appears the suggestion works.

i just followed the DELL procedure (thanks all) and yes it seems to work

Just wehn restarting, the BIOS went to SATA so the computer did NOT start anymore

I set it back to AHCI (not sure is the best option ??)

After I had also to review and change few options = mainly the one for the fast reboot (otherwise you do not have the option under windows power managemnt)

Is there something else to set back ?

The computer seems to work

Tried it couple times, no luck,  same situation.. front power light flashes process starts but nowhere it indicates that the clock has been reset so i am not sure if it is even performing it...?

Perfect, big thanks to RandomPlanet. I only tested for a day but this probably solved my problem. Now my XPS 2-in-1 hibernates properly and it's not switched to airplane mode when it wakes up.  

IMPORTANT NOTE on BitLocker: new computers are delivered with encryption turned on. If you reset RTC you need to enter the BitLocker recovery key on next boot. So the procedure is as follows:

- Go to Settings, Device Encryption. Turn off device encryption.

- Turn off the device, then press the power button and keep it pressed for 25 seconds. Once the front light starts blinking you release the button and wait for circa 1-2 minutes.

- Turn on the device, press F12 on the Dell logo screen to enter Setup.

- In Setup set Safe Boot to Enabled, exit with Save Changes option.

- Once Windows boots you can go to Settings, then Device Encryption, and turn device encryption back on.

If your computer fails to boot:

- Try to turn on Safe Boot in Setup. If you however use an alternative operating system with no Safe Boot support (some Linux distros, FreeBSD or so) you might need to turn off Safe Boot.

- Try to use alternative BitLocker (actually Device Encryption) procedure which will guide you to MS site where you can retrieve the recovery key of your Device Encryption.

first let me say this is a great achievement of this Forun

When I started this thread I almost wanted to give back this computer =

1) just after the FCU, the computer was really such a pain to use = always looking for a plug or having to swtich off

2) reaction of DELL = nothing = uo to now, nothing !!! You buy a piece of HW with a relative higher price than the market, because you expect to have a BMW, not some sort of Seat or Skoda.....  You buy a NBD inside the package = and NOTHING

After this fix, all seems to be Ok, but I must say that I lost TOTALLY the confidence I had in the brand, and as I will have to to equip few of my companies with over 100 pieces of HW, I think that DELL lost a large piece of business.

Some of you, will tell = this is a windows.... or whatever... Yes but we paid for package and no-one of us is curious to spend hours solving such issues and not having the support that we paid for.

So, once again, I love this forum and all people that leaded us to the solution, however Dell is not what it should be.

PS; for the one not able to start, simply go in the BIOS and setup the disk to AHCI back again.

By the way, who could make a list of the OPTIMAL BIOS PARAMETERS for the XPS 13 9365 ?

(this would be useful as this RTC proceudure by me, reset the full BIOS settings)
