a problem occurred while creating the recovery drive
I have just bought Dell XPS 15 9550 this January and decided to make a recovery drive recently. The problem is that no matter what USB (of course larger than 16GB) I'm using, I just cannot get the recovery drive successfully. Every time the process ends up with sentence saying "a problem occurred while creating the recovery drive". I have installed all the available updates for my model and the problem still exists.
Is there anyway to fix the problem?

Lqiu,
At the link below is a link with information to create the Dell Recovery,
How to create and use the Dell Recovery & Restore USB drive
Create Windows 10 recovery media for your Dell computer
Tutorial From TenForums -How to Create a USB Recovery Drive in Windows 10
NOTE: Back up system files to the recovery drive will require that the USB flash drive is large (at least 8-16 GB) enough for this.
Checking this option will give you a Recover from drive Troubleshoot option in advanced startup that allows you to reinstall Windows from the recovery drive.
Some people are getting a We can't create the recovery drive - A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive error message with Back up system files to the recovery drive checked.
If you have this issue, then leaving Back up system files to the recovery drive unchecked should allow it to successfully create a recovery drive.
Restore your Dell computer to the Dell factory image using recovery media
If you have created recovery media and need to use it (because the hard drive was replaced or the pre-installed recovery partition is not available), you can restore your computer to factory settings by following these steps:
Windows Recovery Environment.
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) is a recovery environment that can repair common causes of unbootable operating systems.
Windows RE is based on Windows Pre-installation Environment (Windows PE), and can be customized with additional drivers, languages, Windows PE Optional Components, and other troubleshooting and diagnostic tools. By default, Windows RE is preloaded into the Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 R2 installations.
How to Access Windows RE.
Users can access Windows RE features through the Boot Options menu, which can be launched from Windows in a few different ways:

I just got a Inspiron 13 5000 that was giving me the same error message I am using a 32 gig card so I know I had enough room. After trying it twice I decided to reformat my card hoping that would help. I used the long format not the quick format After the format I followed the create recovery drive process again and it worked. So I solved my own problem. Try it.

Still get the same message even after unchecking the system files box.

Run reagentc.exe /enable from an elevated command prompt. The recovery may be disabled by an inadvertent tick or shut off by an admin.

Brand new XPS15 was having the same issue. I did both the full (long) format (NTFS) as suggested by dkend as well as running the command suggested by MarcoB2981 and sure enough on the next go-round it worked. I'm not sure which did it, perhaps both, but it completed.
I can also tell you if you put in a USB drive greater than 32GB it will create a 32GB partition and leave the rest of space unallocated. I'm not sure if it is smart to make a 2nd partition to use for storage or not, not going to risk it, but seems like no reason to use a drive greater than 32GB.
Thanks everyone for the help, not sure I ever would have guessed either solution.

Format never finishes on physically bad drives.

I did both the full format in NTFS & run the command line suggested by MarcoB2981, but still no success. My flash drive is a newly-bought (less than 6 months old) Sandisk cruzer fit 32gb (usb2). So, what should I do next.....?

Sandisk is one of the units that is often counterfeit.
This is why I insist on buying retail because if its fake you can get refund.
The best way to reinstall is to use OEM system builder DVD and Internal Sata or USB2 DVD drive.

The disk works fine on Dells from 2006 to 2020.
F12 Boot with secure boot set to off.
The disk for home or pro is identical.
This drive is the specific model I recommend and it works on every dell I own from 2006 to 2020

You dont need that if you have internal optical drive.

thank you Speedstep for your reply. I'll try to run complete chkdsk to the flashdisk. If it's still not working, I will try it with another flahsdisk (of course, from another brand).
