Can you double check that model number? I cannot find any information on a Vostro 5518. And it may be that you will have to do a clean install on Windows 10 or Windows 11 depending on your accurate model number.

Inasmuch as you cannot use the system as is right now, you can download the Windows 11 media creation tool here (choose the second option for the tool) and try a repair first. If that does not help then a clean install may be in order.

Same problem here on the Vostro 5581. An employee in a remote office clicked on the Windows 11 update. The update worked fine, and he used it for a week or so. Than, after the first reboot, the black screen of death appeared. There is no way to login (I tried everything thinkable).
The cursor shows on the black screen and can be moved. Windows-P works (for switch screens) and Windows-U for the Magnifier, on-screen keyboard etc also works. That's all.
I tried all recover options, including factory reset with OS Recovery from Dell. The safe modes don't work, USB-boot cannot solve it. I installed is as new pc, each time looking up the (new) Bitlocker code and typing it over. Each installation succeeds, even tried updating separate drivers, stalled Windows updates etc., but after every system restart reverts to the black screen of death and kills the pc.
This model is on the Windows 11 supported list of Dell.
This problem already took over eight hours reinstalling, troubleshooting, entering bitlocker codes and waiting, waiting....

Same here. Spent weeks trying to find a solution... Model of device doesn't matter, had a few situations when 2 exactly same laptops from same batch behaved differently.
As Microsoft Show Case School we decided to update all compatible computers (about 1000 devices). 99% of compatible devices updated successfully. But that 1%...
In some cases (usually if system was updated from 10 to 11) uninstalling of quality update helped (booted from USB -> Repair your computer -> Troubleshoot -> Uninstall Updates -> Uninstall latest quality update).
What I also realised that even clean installation of Windows 11 doesn't help, moment you get first updates and restart you will get black screen and cursor...
If you leave laptop for about an hour or hour and half system will boot eventually. But problem will appear again after restart or at lock screen.
At this moment roll systems that have issues back to Win 10 and wait for first future update in May...

Hey everyone.
Funny part, I have changed screen (that was the last thing that wasn't replaced....) under the warranty and it resolved the issue. It already worked on 2 different devices. Lucky my company purchases laptops with extended warranty...
There is no logical explanation but it worked...
