Windows 11 TPM Issue Alienware 17 R5
(edit) added photos.
Hello -
Having a bear of a time getting TPM enabled on my laptop. I've browsed through many forums and came up with several "solutions", yet I can't seem to get everything to come together.
Sys Info:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
NVIDIA Gforce GTX 1070
Current version of BIOS 1.14.0
Current Windows Build:
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 21H1
Installed on 6/12/2020
OS build 19043.1288
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
Issue:
I cannot get TPM enabled so I can updated to Windows 11. Here's what I've done:
Changed boot option in BIOS from legacy to UEFI, enabled secure boot, disabled the legacy ROM option. Once I did that, TPM was no longer grayed out and I could enable it. However, when I rebooted, a notification popped up stating "checking media presence....." When that completed, Support Assist immediately popped up and started scanning memory. Did that for several reboots, in fact I never got the machine to load windows.
I changed everything back in the BIOS - all legacy boot enabled, TPM grayed out. Machine booted just fine.
Any ideas?

If Windows was installed in legacy mode, the boot drive is in MBR configuration -- UEFI mode (legacy off) requires GPT. While there is a utility to convert the drive, before doing so be absolutely sure you have a tested backup of the contents of the drive -- things can and do go wrong.
Alternatively, you can reload Windows in GPT mode.

I recommend you move all your important data to OneDrive online or even a local copy on a USB as windows once installed on UEFI wont boot when changed to legacy. I did know that changing from UEFI to Legacy gave me the TPM option on my area 51m.
