Dimension 4700 upgrade to Win 8 Pro
I have a Dimension 4700 laptop with XP sp3 installed. I downloaded Win 8 Pro and installed. It finished installation but stopped with an error message indicating that my computer was not compatible. Some further research narrows the problem down to the A10 bios. The version I have does not give an option under Security to turn on XD. My Latitude 620 also has A10 bios, but a later version that includes this feature.
My question is this: Does Dell offer a later version of the bios for the 4700 (I could not find one on the Dell Web site) or, does anyone know of an aftermarket bios that would be compatible? My desktop is a 3 ghz processor with TB hard drive and 4 gb of memory.

Hi Singram,
The latest BIOS available for this system is A10 and it may not get updated in the future. The 'Dell Product Group' team has not tested this system with Windows 8. The drivers will not be available for this system. You can refer to the link for a compatible system tested by Dell with Windows 8 bitly.com/RnDAFu .

What was the exact error. Have you tried booting from the Windows 8 installation media again and repairing the installation or alternatively installing directly from a USB stick? See my wiki A Clean Install of Windows 8
