Refreshing Inspiron 3520 after Windows 8.1 has been installed.
I took up the opportunity of the free Windows 8.1 upgrade but I have had a problem with some software and I need to refresh my computer.
Every time I go to 'Refresh your computer without affecting the computers files' the working icon shows then a notice saying 'Some files are missing. You will need these files to proceed'
I received Windows 8 wit the Laptop and therefore have not got the Windows Key, this means I cannot go through with the installation manually.
What can I do to revert back to my old settings, or at least refresh Windows 8.1 so I have the basic apps?

You need a Windows 8.1 .iso unfortunately this cannot be obtained from Dell and you cannot download it unless you have a retail license or look for it using an unofficial source. If you contact Dell for Windows 8.1 media they will only give you Windows 8.0 media due to Microsoft's restrictions (they made Windows 8.1 media reject Windows 8.0 product keys despite it being a service pack). Microsoft have made multiple mistakes with Windows 8.1 deployment and its unknown why they are hindering Windows 8.0/8.1 OEM installs in such a manner but its only making life difficult for its consumers and leading to an increased number of people looking for Windows and uploading it in unofficial locations.
If you have a retail license see download Windows 8.1 .iso with a retail product key:

If you do get the retail .iso these steps will help you clean install:

Okay, I don't mind going back to the previous version of Windows 8 as I will be able to reinstall/update my Windows 8 to 8.1 afterwards.
I had Dell Backup Recovery installed but it would not recognise my usb disks and I uninstalled i, then downloaded it again from the Dell website. I created a USB Recovery/Reinstall Disk and followed the process to Restore Your Computer. My computer is now just over half way from preparing its hard drive and an error shows.
"Error 0x4001001300001002. If this issue persists, please contact Dell Support."
Now I can't get back on to reformat my USB Reinstall Media and I just want to download the correct Media to recover my Laptop. Can I do it from another Dell Recovery and Backup product from a seperate laptop?
