Secure Boot not supported by Dimension E521 firmware.

Using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, it says that my secure boot isn't compatible with my PC.  My PC's firmware doesn't support Secure Boot so you won't be able to use Window 8.

I purchased Windows 8 PRO, haven't opened it yet because I don't know if it will run.  I am running Windows 7 Professional.

I guess what I am asking is, should I just return the program?  Please help.

Hi Nancy,

The Dimension E521does not support secure boot function. For secure boot functionality, UEFI BIOS is required in the system. The 'Dell Product Group' team has not tested this system with Windows 8. The drivers may or may not be available in future. You can refer to the link for a compatible system tested by Dell with Windows 8 http://dell.to/RnDAFu

Please reply id you have any questions.

Well I never found Dimension on the listings.  So I guess that I will be returning the program.  My original configuration was Windows Vista and then I updated to Windows 7 Professional, so I guess my machine is just going to have to live with what it has now.  Thank you so much for your help.  May I ask you one more question?  I purchased 4 (1GB) memory modules (recommended by Dell) and installed them but only slots 2 & 4 read the memory, so instead of getting 4 GB of memory I only get 2 GB.  The machine works okay, but is there something I can do about getting 1 & 3 reading.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your response. I would recommend you to remove all the memory modules from the computer. Then put one RAM at a time in one slot and restart the computer. Ensure that you check in all the slots with just one RAM. This will help us isolate the issue with the slots.

You can refer to the manual for more information http://dell.to/qoUq8o

Please reply if you have any questions.

I did as you suggested.  When I put a module in slots 1 or 3, the machine beeps and doesn't start.  In slots 2 or 4 the machine starts perfectly.  Is there something I can do now to fix those two slots?  Again thank you for your help.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your response. Since the computer beeps when the memory modules are installed in slots 1 and 3, there seems to be an issue with the slots and the motherboard may have to be replaced.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Okay thank you.  Since I  have 2 GB of memory, and everything is still working, I guess I will live with the computer the way it is.  At least I have 1 GB more than what the computer came with.  Thank you for all your help.  When the computer completely poops out, I will then get a new computer, and by then there will probably be a whole lot more innovations.
