windows 8 re-installation and hdd partitions
hi
i have just purchased an inspiron 15 windows 8 preinstalled from dell. i have yet to recieve the laptop.
but this is the first time i will be using a pre installed windows that to windows 8.
i am used to making seperate partitions for windows and the data so that in case of crash windows can be re-installed again without loosing data.
now i read some articles about dell recovery....app etc .
1. will i be able to make a windows 8 cd alone
2. what does it mean when u say factory setup image, does that mean re-installing windows from a recovery disk will reformat the whole hdd and make it as one partition again or will i be able to able to re-install in the chosen partition as with windows 7 and older.
i hope you can understand what i am trying to explain
can anyone help me with this dilema..

DELL supports just one partition ..reset the computer to factory defaults means take it back to the way the computer was at day one ..in windows 8 there are ways of doing it
To reset your PC
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Under PC settings, tap or click General.
Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
Follow the instructions on the screen
there is another option which is
Dell Backup and Recovery
which will have all the dell apps and drivers
*** if you wist to create a new partition you would need to do a re installation and create a partition it would be exactly what you are looking for , installation is almost similar to win 7 only the initiation is bit different

Hi kunaark,
You can create a restore disk using the Dell Backup and Recovery application, which can be used to restore the laptop to the factory defaults. The system settings would be reset to the day when you received the laptop. The application cannot be used to create a Windows 8 disk alone.
The partitions are reset to defaults when the factory setup image is re-installed using the recovery disk.

so how can I safe guard my DATA when there is only one partition and in case the system crashes. dell recovery will take it back to the actory state isn't it

mr rajath thank you for replying but u have not suggested any solution....tell me how can I safe guard my data. another thing what will happen to my mcafee supscription in case of re-installation as I have not received any cd for that as well
also tell me if I can create a restore point i.e. not the factory restore settings.

Hi kunaark,
Thank you for your reply and for providing an update. You will need to create a Rescue Disk on an external hard drive as a premium user from Dell Backup and Recovery. This will Backup all the data from the system to the external drive. Dell Backup and Recovery will restore the system to factory defaults. You can create restore point from Windows.
You have to download the McAfee installation file from the McAfee website and use the same e-mail address and password that was used for the subscription and it will continue.
