2.1.4 Deleting the ei.cfg file to obtain all Versions

Disclaimer: This wiki is not official Dell documentation but is compiled by Philip Yip (Dell Community Rockstar natakuc4).

Download one of the existing .isos (of your language) from here. Download either the 32 bit or 64 .iso depending on what bit of Windows you want.

Install 7zip (using the 32 bit or 64 bit .msi depending on your OS).

Extract the contents of the .iso with 7zip. This is your extracted Windows installation files.

The extracted contents should look like this. Go to the sources folder.

Scroll through the folder until you find ei.cfg right click this file and delete it

When you install you will get this for 32 bit

or this for 64 bit.

Note the Starter only comes with the 32 bit, thats normal.

NovaCorp WinToFlash can be used to make these installation files into a bootable USB. Alternatively the files can be remade into an .iso and used in conjunction with the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool. Both methods are explained below.

Download NovaCorp WinToFlash (use the download links to their FTP webservers and avoid the FindMySoft download link).

Insert a 8-16 GB USB stick.

Open the Novicorp WinToFlash 0.7.0048 beta compressed folder

Start the Windows Setup Transfer Wizard

Select Next

Select the extracted folder containing the Windows installation files for Windows path and select your USB drive for USB drive respectively:

Read and agree with the license and then press continue:

Select continue at the warning.

It will begin to copy the files

When this gets to 100 %, press next then finish:

Use this bootable USB for reinstalling Windows 7 (see A Clean Install of Windows 7 for details).

Alternatively to remake a .iso image download Imgburn. Launch imgburn and select "Create Image file from files/folders"

Select the browse folder button and select your Extracted Windows Installation Files folder. Next select Advanced.

To the left will be your Vista folder, to the right make sure, you have checked Make Image Bootable, changed the Developer ID: Microsoft Corporation, load segment: 07C0 and Sectors to load: 8.

Select  the browse folder button and then navigate to your Vista folder and then select the boot folder and finally select the file called etfsboot.

Select the build button.

Save your .iso

Select yes when the prompt for the Volume Label comes up and then select ok. Finally wait for it to make the .iso file. This .iso can be used with the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool.

Once one has the .iso file they may wish to use the Microsoft .iso to USB/DVD tool to create a bootable DVD or USB (requires a blank DVD or USB flash stick of at least 4 GB).

Note: You may use the HP Format Tool to format your USB stick (run it as an administrator) after the windows install so you may use it as a USB stick again. ;)

Full install instructions using this media can be found in my A Clean Install of Windows 7 on Dell Laptops/Desktops wiki. This guide can be used in non-Dell systems but the note at the end of the wiki must be read before proceeding.
