ATI Xpress 1100 Pro Chipset (RC415/Sb600) SATA driver - Windows 2000

Hi,

I am trying to install Windows 2000 on an Optiplex 320 which has the above chipset.  Windows 2000 installation needs a SATA driver fed to it (the "press f6" stuff).  Can anybody point me to the correct thing?  Dell driver downloads has an XP version but no for W2k.

Thanks,

Steve

The ATI chipset driver (which includes the driver for ATI SATA controller - in fact I think that is all it is!) which Dell only lists under the software for XP (with the Optiplex 320) works with 2000 too.  This isn't a fudge either - it actually has a seperate W2000 splash screen if you run it on that OS.  So it should be under the W2000 list of drivers for this system too.  R134873.EXE is the file.

Beware also of W2000 install getting confused/upset over which HAL to use on these machines.  Under different circumstances, I've seen it pick both "Standard PC" and "ACPI Uniprocessor PC", whereas (since this is a dual-core CPU) it should presumably have gone for "ACPI Multiprocessor PC".

The problem is, the OS cannot be installed without the raw (.inf) drivers being loaded using the F6 function during 2000 setup..
