Can't install Win98se or WinME on Dimension 3100

Question

I bought a new Dimension 3100 which came with Windows Media Centre. I want to install Win98se or Me for some of my softwares/hardwares do not work on Media Centre or XP. After installation I get the error message : 'Disk Write Error' Cannot write to Disk. And I can only start Win 98 or Me in Safe Mode. I formatted the Drive - Debugged it and repartionned - and disabled all unecessary on-board hardware - still isn't working Thank you for helping .

i am trying to install  windows 98  on my desktop computer brand optiplex gx1 266mtbr+ .  i formatted the hard drive first  and now when i install my windows 98 the message appears  after  36% completion  the message is ' you interrupted setup while it was copying windows files from a setup( cab) file.

You should not install win 98 on a new computer. Use Compatibility Mode instead. Instructions in Help.

Hi

You can upgrade your Operating System, but not Down Grade. You wont have drivers for your newer hardware, that are compatable to WIN98. Just not possible. Manufacturers wont even think of WIN9X or ME these days. WIN 2000 is getting old, XP is about to be replaced by Vista. If you want to run the older OS, put it on an older Computer that it will be compatable with.
