Dell XPS 8300 trouble installing and running windows XP

I recently purchased a dell XPS 8300, i5 and installed windows xp. Called dell support and they helped me with installing windows XP professional on my computer. Now i'm trying to to get the drivers for the computer to run propertly, audio devisem network controller, pci simple comm controller and sm bus controller

the sound is not working and when i lookin to whose it is, it indicates create lab but when i go on there website i cant find the driver section let alone the driver for the windows XP, the sound card that built in the computer is THX TruStudio PC.

please advice

As XP is not supported on this system, just know that you may not get all your devices working properly. Don't be surprised if your XP isn't what you dreamed it would be. Also, with XP, you are limited to 4GB of RAM ... "usable" RAM will be less than that - significantly less if using a video card with lots of memory on it. If you are using the 64-bit version of XP, you're just asking for trouble.

First thing you should do is go to Intel.com and let it scan for devices for which it has updated drivers:

I can't understand from your posts what other devices you are missing.

In Device Manager (AFTER running the Intel update utility and rebooting), right-click on any unknown devices, Properties, Details tab, change dropdown to Hardware Ids, then provide the VEN and DEV ID's here.

Nat ... what BSOD did you get? 7b? There is a good technical fix for that you know :)

How i got it to work, in the bio i indicated to the bios that i was installing a raid controller, once i did that the window xp was allowing me to install this,

the video card i put an pci-e dual monitors

no sound card but as i read somewhere else i may have to put one as a pci-ex1 to resolve that issue

no other items installed

no wireless card

what the computer breakdown- intel i5, 6gig of memory and 500hd sata, i did put in and 2nd hard drive at 80HD sata

dual video card installed separately and working fine

You need to tell us more about your XPS. I am surprised you even got XP installed when I tried on mine it gave me BSOD.

What hardware do you have?

Do you have a graphics card installed. A soundcard, a bluetooth card, what wireless card do you have etc?

Theflash yeah it was 7B. I was gonna install XP to play an old game then when I got the BSOD I gave up and decided it wasn't worth all the bother for the game.

I ran the intel detect as you suggested the only thing that appeared not compatible video and sound.

and both items can easily be fixed thru pci-e cards.

but when i do check device manager the

a question that i have and not sure if this has anything to do with this, but in order for me to originally install windows xp 32 on this computer i had to change in the BIOS to raid from achi. After i install the windows and now try to switch in the BIOS back to achi from raid i get blue screen with number and so on i guess as you indicate here x000007b or something like that. Can this be the cause of the device manager

well

i can't say that i got it completely to work xps 8300

i got the internet to work going to intel website for driver updates and so on

but it still gave me error in the hardware status area

i gave up and just went with windows 7 :(
