Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

USB recovery fails.

After following the directions supplied with the USB key i.e. (Boot PC hit F12 select Boot from USB) the boot process begins but I get the following message "Protection Error... Unable to continue the booting process. Some informations are corrupted or missing!!"

Information given to Dell when ordering part.

PC = Optiplex 780, O/S = Windows 7 64bit

Part received = SKU 342-5779 Dell Direct USB Recovery Key Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Dell, I do not like that restore disks do not come with the PC anymore. It was bad enough that PC manufacturer were putting the restore info on an OEM partition on the hard drive. Works fine if the problem is not a HDD failure.  I also do not like the idea that you can no longer order the restore DVD or CD.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

The dell usb recovery media are one time use and encrypted so they cannot be cloned. They are also machine specific.  Optiplex 780's are not machines that would have had Windows 7 home premium recovery key.  You cannot use any key on any system.  Your Optiplex 780 DOES NOT have a USB recovery key.

The Mispelling in your error also indcates to me that this "recovery key" did not come from dell.

You may not be able to purchase a Dell OS Recovery USB Key.  They are only for specific models and not available world wide. They also do not cover all OS.If you are not in the USA you may not be able to get one.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

I am getting the exact same error "Unable to continue the booting process. Some informations are corrupted or missing!!" with my Dell Direct USB Recovery Key Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

This usb key was sent to me from Dell for my Inspiron N7110.

I called support and asked for another usb key at no charge since this one is defective. I was told I had to pay for service to determine if the usb key was defective before I could get a replacement.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

The error is coming from NON DELL source and Likely EMEAI country.  The Recovery key is designed to be used only 1 time and never again.  They are encrypted and cannot be cloned.  Dell USA support would not send the key to anyone whose warranty has expired.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

How many users have to tell you that they received the DELL USB key directly from Dell and yet it still has misspellings such as "informations" in its error messages. I called Dell, they had my complete order information, and at my request they sent me a Dell USB Recover and Restore Key. I am having similar problems to the other users.  I managed to use the key to install Windows 8.1 on a machine that came with Windows 7 installed, but recovery is hung at the stage at which it would restore my personal information.  It asks me to insert the USB key and restart, but when I boot from the USB key, it says that some informations have been corrupted, and won't let me go on.  I could live with losing the personal information because I have only had the machine for a couple of weeks, but it is annoying that every time I boot Windows the Dell recovery software keeps pestering me to insert the USB key and reboot, and sometimes even reboots without my consent.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

If the system has a Windows 8.1 Pro license (with downgrade rights to Windows 7 Professional) and you want to install Windows 8.1 Pro you could just download a .iso and make a FAT32 Bootable USB as GPT for a UEFI BIOS. Enable SecureBoot before installing, see here for details:

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

This forum is Dell USA.  Dell USA would not send any such key randomly for any dell system.

Directly from DELL in what country?  Keys are not sent out for systems out of warranty.

Windows 7 is from 2009 and its 2015.  Well past any shipping warranty.  Microsoft has also Ended Windows 7 home and Ultimate months ago.

This forum is not direct interaction with Dell Warranty Support.

EMEAI is being ignored so I'm even more certain that this is not coming "directly" from DELL but rather 3rd party in a country where Dell support is 3rd party.

mguarino13 is posting from the US. OptiPlex 780 Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.

Note it is possible to get Windows 7 Home Premium on an OptiPlex but relatively rare. Most of the OptiPlex 760, 780, 790 and 7010 systems shipped to my University came with Windows 7 Home Premium. Most of the OptiPlex 755s shipped with Windows Vista Home Basic. The University got them because they were cheaper and used the volume license to put Enterprise on them.

It is however a Late 2009 system as you say and probably out of warranty.

JeanEs2015 is posting from CA. Inspiron N7110 Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.

It is however an Early 2011 system and also likely out of warranty.

RE: Dell direct USB recovery key Win7 Home Premium 64bit

Missing the point. There was NEVER a win7 home premium USB recovery key for the optiplex 780.

Its dsingenuous to ask dell to fix something that they did not make or sell or distribute to an end user.

OEM's are not allowed to Sell NEW Windows 7 Home Premium after the End of Sales date.

That means that an 8.1 with windows 7 home installed would not be "new" or sold from dell in the last few weeks.

OEM's are not allowed to Sell NEW Windows 7 Home Premium after the End of Sales date.

Newegg is still selling it. Also, some refurbished older Dells were being sold with Windows 7.
