Embedded version of SP3 for XP to be available on CD according to MS

Yeah, on dialup you have to be patient. I used a download manager when I had dialup. this way if the download got interupted, I could resume it without starting over.

I doubt MS will give them away like they did SP2, providing the ISO to be downloaded makes me think this.

Time will tell.

Since SP3 is not as security critical as SP2 was, I may take some time before MS offers it for sale.

the question was asked on behalf of people having only a dial-up connection...

Why doesn't MS put an ISO of the full version of XP, with SP3 embedded, on its download site?  They could require input of each customer's XP license number to keep non-owners from stealing it. 

Could the full slipstreamed version be much bigger than the SP3 itself?

The first one is just the install program for SP3.  This file ends with .exe and would be used for slip streaming.

The second file that you list is an ISO file that is meant to be burned to a CD.  From there it could be used to update your system.

When you download SP3, burn a copy onto a CD before it is installed.  Or if that is not an option, download directly to your CD drive.  However, it will be available as a download from Microsoft for a long time.
