Error 1714. The older version of Dell Support Center cannot be removed.

Question

Hi,
The Dell support center invited me to download the new support center 2.0.
However, when I tried to install it I got:
"error 1714. The older version of Dell Support Center cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
and the installation fails.
I tried removing the first version through control panel but got the same response.
Any ideas anyone?
(Is this where I can find my technical support group?)
Dimension E 521, Windows XP home.

What version are you trying to remove?  If it is an older version of 2.0 go Here   Scroll down to ' Uninstall Dell Support 2.x After a Failed Attempt' Message Edited by mombodog on 11-21-2007 09:23 PM

Go here  http://ftp.dell.com/app/   It is near the bottom of the page.

Hi mombodog,

thanks for your help. I haven't got any of those in the drivers folder and the support page says:

You Are Searching For

Release R78569 is no longer available.

Reason: Replaced by Dell Support 3.4

Is there anywhere else I can find this?

Well, mombodog, there's something strange afoot. But first of all, many thanks for the info. Half the time the link isn't on the page - I finally managed to grab it and save the file but when I run it I get this: did not find content file. Installation will abort. File name: server.ini   The other strange thing is that, while the original error message about not being able to unistall Dell Support Center mentioned version 2.0, the information from within add / remove programs  gives it as: dell support center 1.0.07192   So I'm no further. If you fancy helping some more, please feel free!
