Error 2000-0142, Validation: 13631, Hard Drive 0 - S/N WD-WXG1A81K2626

Hello,

My wife has been complaining about issues with her Dell XPS 14Z (64BIT, WIN7) having problems starting up.  Suspecting an issue I started a back-up to Carbonite so we had our pictures & video's safe.  36hrs into the backup the progress seemed to stop, so I restarted the computer.  I have been unable to get the computer to boot since.  I have tried to start this computer unsuccessfully.

  • Standard boot hangs up on the windows screen indefinitely.
  • I tried to boot in safemode and it stopped at asvRwrt.sys
  • I tried to boot in safemod-networking and it stopped at asvRwrt.sys
  • I tried to do a start-up repair and was unsuccessful.  The CHKDSK resulted in a Black Screen with mouse cursor.

From what I understand the file backup may have caused the issue to get worse and the HD will likely need to be replaced.  How can I salvage files/data from the drive before it is replaced?  Peforming the Dell diagnostic tool (F10), the HD did not pass

Hi czeilenga,

2000-0142 error indicates hard drive failure on the computer.

We need to replace the hard drive. Try backing up data from the hard drive.

I have provided a link below for drive savers data backup:

You can also contact any local technician to back up data.

You may contact our Dell expired warranty services to purchase/replace the Hard drive.

If the computer has active warranty I shall go ahead and arrange for a service.

Kindly private message me the service tag of the computer. To private message the service tag click my User name and click Start conversation.

Awaiting your response!

to be more clear in my question, what tests can I do to futher evaluate the issue without compromising the data that is on the drive?  Should i just plan to remove and read on a good computer?

Hi czeilenga,

Glad to hear that you got a new hard drive.  You may take the hard drive to a local technician to backup the complete data.
