I had exactly the same message :

You need to UNinstall your McAfee before installing the Vista.

BUT....I have had probs since with re-installing McAfee since.  You can e:mail the help desk once you have installed Vista and hopefully they'll help you.

I sent them an e:mail the other night, and this is the response (sounds promising to me).  Hope this helps :

From the information you have provided, I understand that you have installed
Windows Vista, but now your McAfee Security Center is coming up as being "not
compatible". You want the steps to install the McAfee Security Center as you
have a 36 months contract with McAfee. You have attempted to install the McAfee
software from the CD, but you receive error messages.

I appreciate your efforts in resolving this issue.

I understand your concern. Be rest assured, I will try my best to resolve this
issue.

Let me explain this to you.

McAfee is compatible with all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista.

If you have recently purchased McAfee Security in the retail channel, or online,
you are eligible to receive a free McAfee upgrade for Vista.

If purchased from a retail store, you can download the Vista compatible version
directly by accessing the following web link.

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/misp/english/version_1.2/sticker_update_1_2.exe

You must have retail CD in the computer's CD drive before installation starts.
Be sure to keep the McAfee product CD that was included in the box. You will
need this CD for authentication to add the Vista compatible upgrade.

Those are the steps we need to perform and you should be all set.

If the issue still persists then we will need to isolate this issue.

In order to isolate this issue, I need to ask you few questions.

1) May I have your E-mail address with which you are registered with McAfee so
that I can check your subscription status?

2) May I know what is the exact error message that you receive when you try to
install the McAfee software from the CD?

3) Is Internet Explorer configured as the default browser? You can find out the
same by doing the following steps :
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. From the menu bar at the top, go to Tools>Internet Options.
3. This will bring up the Internet Properties pop-up window.
4. Click on the Programs tab.
5. Verify whether the box next to 'Internet Explorer should check to see whether
it is the 'default browser' is checked.

4) Which McAfee programs are currently installed? If you are not sure, you can
find them by doing the following.

1. Double click on My Computer
2. Double click on the Control Panel
3. Double click on Add/Remove Programs
4. Which McAfee programs do you see listed there?

Please provide us all the above required information. It will help us to
determine the exact cause of the issue and provide you proper resolution.

Hi
I had this message too, I tried for ages to sort it out but in the end just ignored it by opting out of updating that program. Mcafee works fine and have not had any problems with it so far. My Mcafee had updated itself already by all accounts!
