you should state what model dell computer that you have and what version of win xp that you are running..

try running "sfc /scannow".. to do that, go to "start" (the start button at the bottom-left of your computer screen), then go to "run" and type "sfc /scannow" (minus quotation marks).. you might be prompted to put the win xp cd in the disk drive (when running "sfc /scannow")..

also, are you logged in with an "adminstrator account" when the problem occurs?

Redwolf  Thanks for responding.  I have a Dell E510 with 2 GB RAM and Windows XP Pro SP2 and MS Office XP with all the latest MS updates and patches.  Dell replaced my previous new few months old 4700C with the  E510 because several hard drives crashed, capacitors and RAM on the motherboard blew out.  So I got my new warranty system replaced with a rebuilt Dell.  I've had the rebuilt system for about 2 months and hadn't tried to send a report to Microsoft from event viewer before.  This may have been a problem with the reloaded rebuilt Windows XP Pro SP2 E510 operating system from the beginning.  I saw several folks having the same problem when I did a google search.  It's a nuisance.  I'm not sure why the event viewer freezes after I send the report to microsoft when I try to close the systems application event viewer but I have to do an end task because the event viewer isn't responding..  Dell says to contact Microsoft and Microsoft says to contact Dell.  ;-).  Agian thanks!

Redwolf.

;-).  Yeah remformatting could be the answer but it's getting old.  The Dell contracted local hardware tech installed a blank hard drive last on the 4700 that was defective and I reinstalled everything from scratch on my own.  It takes me a couple of weeks to get everything back to the way it was, configure the Outlook, pst contacts, POP, set up several accounts,  find software licenses keys and prove to folks like Counterspy that my software is legal so I can reinstall for each account.  However reformatting my have merit since I'm not sure the initial Dell load is just right.  I was hoping I didn't have to reformat and start over for the 5th time (1st time on this replacement E510).  I'm really hoping there isn't a hardware problem on my new rebuilt E510 replacement for the 4700 lemon.
