Fresh re-install of XP - finds previous version

Question

I want to do a fresh re-install of Windows XP using the CD that came from Dell, but the instructions I get from the CD are different than what is provided on the Dell support website.  More specifically, instead of getting the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, I get a screen asking me what I want to do about my existing copy of XP on my C: drive.  Here's what the screen says:   If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it.   Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select an installation.   - To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R. - To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press ESC.   After pressing ESC, I get a screen that shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on my computer, and I'm asked to select one of the following options:   - To set up Windows XP on the selected item, press ENTER - To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C - To delete the selected partition, press D   My C: drive shows up in the list if partitions as 'Partition2 [NTFS]'.  When I select this item and press ENTER, I get a screen that says this:   You chose to install Windows XP on a partition that contains another operating system.  Installing Windows XP on this partition might cause the other operating system to function improperly.   CAUTION: Installing multiple operating systems on a single partition is not recommended.  To learn more about installing multiple operating systems on a single computer, see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/multiboot.asp using Internet Explorer.   - To continue Setup using this partition, press C - To select a different partition, press ESC.   Obviously I don't want two of the same operating system on my C: drive.  Why doesn't my computer follow the standard instructions that is provided on the Dell support website, and what do I need to do so that I can just replace the existing copy of XP with a fresh re-installation? ok ill try to help u with this. ive done this so many times i can do it in my sleep but trying to tell someone how to do it is challenging. u want to delete the partition. for a fresh reinstall hit esc then hit d to delete the partition then u should see something that says blah blah hit L then go from there u will know u r on the right track if it says the partition u selected says new raw blah blah megabites then follow the instructions from there. its really very simple after u have done it  a million times like i have. :smileyhappy:. i hope this helps u.
